RE: Savarez Alliance (in reply to tele

Has anyone else experienced flat intonation with the alliance G string? It's about 5-10 cents flat when played from 5th-14th fret. I have tried swapping the string and the compensation on the saddle and nut are as short as possible. The fret positions are correct. Could it be that I have to wait for a week or so for it to stretch? Anything else I can do?

I think bending a little is standard practice when playing on the upper frets of nylon stringed guitars. Iam not saying that you have to that on all guitars or string tension/brands but again.. thats what you usually have to do.

Yes, Alliance trebles are known for crappy inconsistent intonation.
Ive tried them many times on and off over the years. Got fed up with them.

Always back to D'addario. Not quite as exciting sounding, but always in tune.

OK so I managed to get it properly intonated, I just filed the G string at the nut so that the scale became 1mm longer for the G string.
Rui: Usually guitar can be made intonated +/- 3 cents correct on all frets with proper compensation. For example 660mm scale is made 1mm shorter from the nut to 12th fret and 1-2mm longer from 12th fret to the saddle.

Picture a situation where there are lots of guitars, none of them are yours, string brands are "whatever", so is humidity...

Many players dont even notice they're out of tune or they rearely play past the 5th fret.

One gets used to do is own compensation without altering guitars. At least I cant be bothered to make a different saddle anytime I change string gauge.

I like them, but they degrade to fast, especially the D as it almost always breaks during a gig a week after I put them on. D'Adarios are more consistent and always work for me.
