Don't be ridiculous!

This is all histrionics and hair pulling now. Lets not go inflaming things with facist talk and quitting the foro...

We can't have a foro of sycophants for god sake!

I checked, but there are no locked topics the past months...

I have no idea what this is all about.
we also shouldn't forget that most of the members are just nice friendly flamenco enthusiasts, see the challenge section for example.

Thanks to Simon for financing the foro out of pocket and still putting up with all this! Thanks to Kate too for trying to get some donations going to help Simon out.

I'm happy to donate a bit from the poor student fund :) Has the Paypal button been put up yet? The foro is a great place and I still have bad memories from the last time we had to go elsewhere. I'd hate to see the foro close down (I wonder if the Old School Foro is still up in case we need somewhere to migrate to?)

I am also happy to donate.

The foro is a unique and wonderful resource.

I hope Doit's not going to exile himself, for one thing I'm waiting on his Tomatito bulerias.

elroby... you stole my avatar!

I guess I'll have to find a new one (Done!)

Doit, you are one of the folks that make the Foro so entertaining! You are not allowed to quit!

Simon... the Foro is so appreciated by so many of us around the world who do not otherwise have easy access to flamenco. Please know how important it is to so many!

RE: Flamenco Foro (in reply to cathulu

I would use the donate button. Get it up there :-)

I have never thought about using the report abuse thing. I'll use it from now on when I feel something is out of line, but like others have said.. a good 90% of the activity here is fine stuff!

I read the foro a lot, but I've been busy lately so I haven't had time to contribute much as I would like.. The mini challenges have been great. I still need to record and upload the emilio maya piece..

Big thank you to all of you lot who make this foro work! in regards to content , moderation and technology.

OMG that means you were filtering your ideas already?
No seriously, i dont think you have anything to do with it. Maybe i have? I dont know. All i can say is that everything runs fine here. Some bitching, ok, but thats normal IMO. We've passed much different times...

Please keep the forum going.

Its a difficult form of communication for some people: basically just words, no voice sounds, no body language etc and its easy to cause offence without even being aware of it sometimes.

But within these limitations its a marvellous resource for anyone involved in flamenco and it would be a tragedy to let a few hotheads mess it up for the rest of us.

So Simon, please just do whatever it takes.

RE: Flamenco Foro (in reply to cathulu

Good morning
I´ve had the time to read yhrough some threads. (the closed ones)

It makes me sad that a few members can make the owners and moderators consider closing down the forum.
Its also sad to see that as always, there´ssomeone just waiting for this to happen. Because it makes the forum "interesting" and then they can join the "party" and stir up things

Its not the first time this happens. It has happened may times before and its not the first time that the forum is at point of being closed. (it actually was closed for some month)

I fully understand if Simon and also Ron and Henry gets tired of this "show" I personally wouldn´t be capable of dealing with this and I would have closed the forum years ago.
The reason I didn´t know what was happening (again) is that I dont read these threads. They are time consuming, sad and totally waste of time. What you see is some big egos going totally mental and throwing dirt while the "joiners of the show scream óle and touché.

I´m very happy that I dont have to read this kind of threads, because it would just be a very negative aspect of my life. So I´m really glad someone else is capable of doing it and so keeping this forum alive.

I think we should be very thankfull that Simon has such an enourmous patience and such a positive laid back attitude towards things. If not, we would have been floating around in cyber space for the last 4 - 5 years.

I will pay. Of course. But I dont think the biggest problem is money and its to easy to just leave it like that.

I hope this will be a nice and constructive day for everyone.

RE: Flamenco Foro (in reply to cathulu

Im really poor...but I would also donate if that is the prob.

Well,...but that isn´t the problem I guess.
I think if Escribano would get any problems with people who would check this place, to take the quality of the discussions, to assess the expertise of Escribano..., than this would have happened already several times. And it would be seriously odd to assess Escribano by rating other people. Its impossible without wild censoring (for example like C.Bob did) to control different characters who polarize...which is very normal.

We are from different cultures that have very different rules. We are of very different age and we have very different interests and opinions, even within the small topic flamenco. We must polarize… everything else would be strange. And flamenco without some shouting people…wouldn´t be flamenco, would it?
The only thing that counts is, that here is a community. People who love the same and always find together after having a fight from time to time.

So, for me it looks like some Escribano may have been contacted by people who definitely left some impact. That made him think. Escribano has a too strong character and stays very relaxed until a very high level of worse things going on.. Much more than normal people could take. I don´t think that our regulars table fights could be crazy enough to even let him bat an eyelid.. There were much worser discussions in past..

RE: Flamenco Foro (in reply to cathulu

I have two suggestions for possible alternatives. On some sports forums, where opinions can get quite contentious, they have a special section called something like "Trash Talk Basement." That way, if members feel like denigrating each other, instead of offering rational commentary, they can do it in there.

And, if the moderator sees posts that he feels should be there instead of in the regular thread sections, he simply relegates the posts to the Trash Talk Basement. The good part about that is that any member who doesn't care to read this stuff, can simply ignore the Trash Talk Basement altogether, and confine his reading to the regular threads, with the sure knowledge that he won't come across any of that.

The other approach is that taken by Delcamp classical guitar site, which is a lot more direct, pretty emphatic, and quite effective. When a thread gets out of hand – as this most recent one clearly did – the moderators simply summarily delete the entire thread, and that's the end of the subject.

Yeah PC,

WE do that too. (....well Simon does )

The idea of a "fight box" sounds appealing, but the problem is that (from my experience anyway) folk prefer to do their fighting in the full public glare and not down some dark back alley.

Better being on the front page rather than page 5 seems to be the sentiment as far as I can see anyway.

cheers,

Ron

I would definitely donate, put up the paypal button, no prob. As for the ad-hominem bs that develops, or spam-bragging, I'd say give people one warning then bounce them quickly. I can imagine the babysitting gets tedious.

Gratitude to Simon-

RE: Flamenco Foro (in reply to cathulu

I remember the days when I subscribed to all threads automatically upuntill one point, just recently, all the b*tching started all over again in to many posts, and every automatic mail was even worse than the one before, so I unscribed all, and this foro wans't included anymore in my automatically browser startup.
To bad, because a lot is going on, but rather see some positive donations than negative ones, and ofcourse some money to get the forum running.

Well yes, but a separate section still allows them to do it in the full public glare - for anyone who wants to read that stuff and voluntarily goes to the trash section. But for those who don't want to read that stuff, they don't have to become an accidental captive audience when a thread is toxic.
