RE: ****Beginners Challenge Fall 201... (in reply to villain

hm, from the end off January through February I'll have to work alot, so there will be little time for practicing. Most freetime is in December... and during the dark winter i'm not in the mood of learning Allegrias..
Thanks for the fast responses to my question

RE: ****Beginners Challenge Fall 201... (in reply to villain

a lot of people suffer from depression in the winter, due to lack of sunlight.
the only scientifically proven way to combat that is to play a lot of alegrias and to participate in a foro challenge.

we'll just have to wait and see what we have available for tabs and stuff. i think i have an idea that may get us a cool falseta and involve a cool prize at the same time but we'll see.

Hey, there'S an Idea on my mind how to play Allegrias during the winter AND to maintain a depression:
What about that sad part of Allegrias, i'm not really shure whats its name, maybe lento? or sillencio?

RE: ****Beginners Challenge Fall 201... (in reply to villain

so then everything sound good so far... lowden said december would be good and villian said he's open for a winter challenge.
Do we defenitely have to wait for JAnuary? I'M afraid that my work will hinder me from participating...
Is there a minimum of challengers needed to get the challenge started?

RE: ****Beginners Challenge Fall 201... (in reply to villain

well how about we start the second week of december and then end on the first day of february?

we'll try to find something fun and challenging.

i will post a heads up about the new challenge in the general section and will bump it often so people dont miss out.

let's not get too specific about which falseta to play yet so no one can get a head start.

but im thinking some intro compas, alegrias falseta, some compas to close, then silencio. is that too much?

RE: ****Beginners Challenge Fall 201... (in reply to villain

hm, maybe a little much for someone who was never in touch with allegrias at all. At least it's a Beginners challenge...

On the other hand it depends on how difficult the piece will be...and: if we would handle it that way - one will be able to play a nice little piece, not just a falsetta^^ So why not

RE: ****Beginners Challenge Fall 201... (in reply to at_leo_87

i think december would be way too early...we had this before that challenges followed each other too closely and few people were interested...
also an intermediate challenge should come in line, early january would be better for beginners i think...
it seems like there's no interest in any advanced challenge (not counting Doit's challenge of manliness :))...

I think January will be too late and the cold, wet and dark winter ist THE time to practice...
Also we are already 3 Competitors, if it becomes an official challenge there will shure be some more...
As Leo suggested I think the second December Week is a good compromise between december and early January...

it's the majority that decides, i'm just telling my opinion :) - at best i'd be just a judge so it doesn't matter to me when you guys practice, just do it and come up with something i can enjoy and makes you a better player!

still i'd like to see an intermediate challenge (in which i'm not allowed to compete, dammit)

I'd throw down for an intermediate challenge too...although recognizing I wouldn't win, I would still do my best and learn cool stuff.
I'm not arguing either way though - I just dig the results I get from working on these little competitions and am game for whatever you guys set up.

RE: ****Beginners Challenge Fall 201... (in reply to villain

Yeah, that's what its all about, getting better... I hope there are some interessted challengers.
I think it would be a great motivation for me..and in addition i could compare myself to other beginners. I would like to know if i'm the only one who improves that slow
Here i only know my own playing and the overwelmingly great playing of my teacher, what is not always a big motivation, cause he seems to play at a level i probably never be able to arrive within the next 50 years... that'S a little bit frustrating sometimes...
so i'd like to get in "closer contact" to some other beginners, and i think a challenge would be a great opportunity ;-)

btw: sorry for the bad english...

thank you graham! your help is highly appreciated!

ok, so i have one question.

do you guys definitely want to do alegrias or would you mind doing something else?

i ask because i'm going to ask someone who may donate a video and tabs plus a prize and it may depend on what he wants to donate.

no guarantees though.

I'm game for whatever honestly. I like the Alegrias and wouldn't mind the challenge around it, but I am ready willing and able for whatever the challenge.

, its nice that you are motivated, and feel free to set up and do mini-challenges for yourself s etc.. but now i think its fair to allow the next group (intermediate) to have their time and attention of the forum for their challenge......forum can only sustain interest and excitement for about 1 major challenge at the time (whomever is practicing for a challenge is contributing way less if at all to discussions in the forum)...also if its not a rare enough thing they loose their appeal and popularity....lets not overdue it, too much too soon...let it be something special everyone is looking forward too rather then a choir ...its better to have 10 people waiting for it in excitement then 3 people doing it and 10 bored of it...quickest way to kill something is to overdo it...

just my 2 cents....it was good, it was a success...let it rest on a high note...apart from mini challenges who can be any time and for everyone and anyone...each level should have about 1 challenge ...a year....that way when its time again..many who have been looking forward to it will join and will know that is something special not something that goes on every 2 months

hey flo, i couldn't agree more.
but schalli was just so enthusiastic.

but anyways, jose tanaka has agreed to donate one of his lessons as material for the challenge. the winner gets a one month subscription to his site.

i think we should take advantage of this great opportunity.

well i know, i hate to be the guy that seems against it, or negative.. i am not, i am trying to look at the big picture...its excellent that he is enthusiastic, its excellent that you have so much energy and are organizing great prizes..but also there's the intermediates who gave full attention to the beginners challenge and waited their turn..

also got to think of the forum in general... if everyone is off practicing for major challenges at the same time..the forum will be a very very quiet place and that's not good for anyone

but i am not some kind of authority on it...just offered an opinion, do whatever you guys decide that is best

i'll see if we can hold it off until at least the middle of december.

i'll hear more from jose today. this will be great if it works out!

btw, fyi, all you newbies, florian is the father of all the challenges. i remember back in the day when flo and gj organized the first few.

Florian had a good point though, too many of these and eventually you don't invest yourself fully, because there are too many. The break is also good to focus on other elements you need to work on, or polish off and rework the last challenge you worked on, incorporating the feedback you got or after listening to the other recordings.

An other question: Is there still some stuff from the past beginner challenges on the foro? Can't find something with the searchfunction... i'd like to listen to some old results...

They are all available but you have to hunt them down.
I wanted to create an archive of them so I still have all the links. I can send them to you tomorrow.
