Flamenco video lesson

Hi all,

I once signed up for a newsletter from Guitar Control, and since I didn't bother to cancel it I keep receiving them. After all, it's free and you never know when something interesting might come up. They've had all kinds of stuff from rock to thrash and shredding . . . . Yay!

So imagine my surprise when I found the offer of flamenco lessons in this morning's newsletter, along with a 'taster' video:

"Here's the latest, greatest thing I've found:
Flamenco Guitar.

I'll have a ton of tasty guitar treats for you
over the next several weeks.

I have a video today to kick things off, and
please , please , PLEASE post your comment
on the blog."

I'm afraid I was uninspired by it, although they promise it gets better. Let's just say it's not what I would call flamenco, more like elevator music, and not the kind of music I would aspire to.

There are some comments (who knows, maybe even from members of this site?) but I was particularly impressed by the last poster which would like to hear more picador . . . Do picadors make a sound as they stab bulls?

Maybe it's just me; what do you all think of it?

Ummm... no. It's not just you. I thought that was not flamenco (some wishy-washy derivate of Tarantas perhaps?), not particularly interesting or well played. I usually try not to be so brutal but I can't really find much positive to say about that. If I heard that at a gig I'd think it was time to go to the bar for a refill.

This guy has huge talent. Unike others he doesnt try to only play as much notes as possible. He plays with feeling, with A I R E ! Nothing fancy, not too complicated with chords. He doesnt focus on technique, but on making music from the heart. Olé!

Um...well you've got to at least play SOME notes!

That's just noodling around playing nothing at all.

He does leave a lot of spaces though, so you Homeboys will love that.

cheers,

Ron

Perhaps Dieguito de Moron ... at least sometimes ... or maybe ... basically ... some people or others ... or ...

Anyway you get the point.
