Mean Streets

This made me laugh... from the main local newspaper (which covers the whole NE of Scotland)...

I particularly liked the bit... "that in Aberdeen", (BTW..population over 200,000)...

"an Air Rifle and Air Pistol were surrendered"...

and also the phrase "taken off NE streets"...

You could make a cop thriller movie about it with Bruce Willis in a sweaty vest..

This was the same paper that carried the headlines the day after the Titanic disaster...

"North-East man feared drowned in ship sinking incident".

You can't beat the Press and Journal for good entertainment....

A far cry from the headlines here in Northern Mexico.

Where you laugh at the irony and hilarity of these Non-news stories there is nothing to do but cry when you read the headlines here.

Enjoy it.

Just this week there were many major shootouts including one against a police officer in his cruiser, the murder of a child in Mexico city which is obviously being covered up, and last week a major drug dealer was liberated by the mafia after other police officers leaked the route of the convoy taking him to jail.

Pathetic.

Been following it - that the kid reported missing then found dead under the bed and the parents don't know how she got there; even though they had been interviewed on film with the child's pyjama top on the bed. It was later photographed on the body? It's Mexico's Maddy McCann story.

Strangely enough, Sean...Yesterday there was a kinda "sulphurous" smell in the air.
I went to the front of the house to look North to see if there was any kind of volcanic cloud or something.

Only then did I look up the road to see some roof repair men boiling tar.

Maybe the story a history student acquaintance told me about the P & J's legendary parochialism was wrong. He claimed it was the outbreak of the First World War that was headlined with North East man drowned at sea rather than the sinking of the Titanic. Could be both events were. Thought your wife worked for this esteemed publication.

Never heard that one before, Donald....only the Titanic one...even after living in Aberdeenshire for 35 years.

Yeah my wife works for the P&J. (so we get a free copy). It's very popular here.

I sometimes have a browse through it, while Channel 4 News is on and enjoy reading of furious readers complaining of cats raking their dustbins.. while on TV there are floods and disasters being reported and explosions and rattling of machine guns going on.

It's like a sedative and stops you freaking out at the world.

(Bit like "The Sunday Post" in the old days in Glasgow.)
