Monkees do flamenco?

A friend of mine bought a used c.d. of the Monkees (their greatest hits) and I was reading the insert and came across an interesting comment by the author. He described the guitar work in the song, Valleri, has having "flabbergasting flamenco-style guitar" (guitarist is Louie Shelton). Maybe with the right amount of 60's herbs and/or chemicals that song might sound flamenco but without such herbs/chemicals it sounded like pop with a "jazzy' guitar lick. Then again, maybe those Monkees were frustrated flamencos....

The thing though is the author saying "flamenco-style guitar" is kind of like you saying "jazzy' guitar lick". I guess anyone can say what it sounds like to them and give a name to what they hear.

If you want real flamenco in 60's rock, check out the Granadinas at the beginning of "Spanish Caravan" by The Doors.
