It's my 3rd birthday today

..... of playing guitar that is

It sounds ridiculously romantic but it really has changed my life! I used to watch junk TV and mooch around aimlessly in the evenings. Now I just play guitar, which feels so much better. I'll never be Paco (or Paca!) but I'm really pleased I decided to do it.

Good post, Ailsa.

I liked that phrase on Philip John Lee's site about the guitar...

"The toy that never wears out..."

I was watching a Sabicas video the other day and even though he looked about mid-fifties and was a world reknowned professional....he just looked like a little kid having fun!

Great!

cheers,

Ron

Congratulations Ailsa

Remembering your uploads you really did much in three years.
I went back to the Flamenco Guitar two years ago, since then
the "what's on TV tonight"- question also doesn't exist anymore for me.

LOL!

When I first got interested, I didn't have a guitar, but played the trumpet in school.
The Beatles came on the scene (1962) when I was 12.
I really liked Paul McCartney's "violin" bass, so I made myself a little bass out of an old draghtsman's T-Square, some screw-style battery terminals and some bought tuning heads.
The strings I nicked from a cello in the school music cupboard.

My big brother had a tape recorder which also worked like an amp, so I secured the (flat style) mic behind the "bridge" (piece of wood) with an elastic band.

Sounded pretty good!

I even bought a book on bass and learned basic boogie riffs!

No frets of course...just basic fretless T-Square!

Rock on!

cheers,

Ron

PS: My brother then fancied learning guitar himself, so bought a "real" (steel string) guitar for about 2 quid.

Later, we went on holiday to London and to Southend (Seouffend) and stayed at a B&B where their son (15) played drums!

(This was my first venture into "deep" enemy Southern English land, so was quite pleased to find a kindred spirit! )

(Though we had to speak slowly to understand each other)

Great holiday!

Happy Birthday Ailsa, may your Flamenco journey be filled with enlightenment.

I was Twelve when I fell in love with the guitar, I remember being at my firends house who was 4 years older than me and he had just purchased a Gybson explorer electric guitar and was playing Breaking the Law by Judas Priest and after making much noise on it I told him in front of his younger sister that I was going to play much better than him, and his little sister replied "No You're not."
Yes i was and Yes I did.

I do not mean to pressure you Rain, but will you share that talent rooted in such charming foresight you had?

Ailsa, it is romantically infectious a passion, thank you for shouting your love. Your post rushed me to my guitar. I too am so pleased I have resumed playing, mostly thanks to Jim Opfer and Vicente Amigo. I will never play nearly as well as either of these two YouTube favorites , but trying has been and is so much fun!!!

Oh Rain, are you kidding? You are the kindest person on this Foro, you could not manage an insult however hard you should try.

I am not Richard, however, sorry. I am Giacomo. You will hear my Composition as soon as the site will be up at CDBaby (a few weeks I am afraid).
At that time, I also plan to post a Video on youtube, just in case my recording weren’t sufficient to ridicule me

My first guitar lesson was on the evening of my 27th birthday - a gift to myself. I wish I hadn't put it off for so long, but I'm so glad I started at all!

It's good for our brains. :)

Happy Birthday!
