RE: Ever bought a guitar through thi... (in reply to Escribano

Sorry to dig up an oldish thread, but I found this conversation quite interesting. Back in 2008 I bought an Hermanos Sanchis Lopez Solea from guitars.com.es. I was living in Berlin at the time, and just like the original poster, had some doubts about whether it was safe to buy from the site.

Initially I sent an email to guitars.com.es asking about the Burguet 2F and the Alhambra 7Fc and the guy who answered (incidentally also a "nice chap named Pedro"!) said he could suply these, but had a Solea in stock that another customer had ordered but didn't want. Unlike some of you, I was lucky enough to have a local guitar shop (http://www.justmusic.de/) that had the Solea in stock at the time, so I tried it out there and was very impressed.

I'm no expert, but I think it is a step above the more 'factory' produced Alhambra/Burguet guitars. The guy in the Berlin shop thought it was great value too, claiming it sounded like a Conde. I remember I compared it directly to a Burguet ABF (twice the price) and liked it way better. I might write a full review later, but my vague impression is that the Solea is a cheaper model because the materials are not as perfect as on a higher model Sanchis Lopez - eg the back is not perfectly symmetrically book matched, and has some minor discoloration in places. It is still beautifully finished, and I suspect the construction is as good as a higher model, and the asthetic deficiencies probably don't affect the sound much.

Pedro's final price on the Solea was 1150euros including postage and hard case, which was much better than 1350 (from memory) at the local shop w/o case. So I went for it (payed by direct bank transfer), and the guitar arrived without any problems, and I was very happy with it.

I'm only saying this because I am happy to endorse Pedro and whatever websites he's running. Strangely it seems that guitars.com.es now redirects to **** or something. So who knows why the sites keep changing, or if its still the same guy .

For you doubters out there, here's a post on my blog where I mention the guitar:
http://michaels-bms-days.blogspot.com/2008/12/guitar.html

I have also attached my full email conversation (in spanish) with Pedro (including where I accused him of throwing in a crappy tuner only to find that it worked ok). I just altered my email address in the file to try to stop spam. All else is verbatim.

PS I am personally not convinced that Flamencofan isn't legit, though he certainly seems suspicious. My reason is that his english seems very natural, that of a native speaker I'd reckon. Of course this doesn't mean he has to be legit. Just my 2 cents. Also, some folks do buy a lot of guitars.

I wonder why Jason's post is taking so long to be approved? Over two months now.

No worries Ron, and thanks Jason! I just wanted to bring some more evidence and another perspective to the discussion of that site. Maybe when I have time I'll upload some more pics or video of the Solea, because the most important thing is that for around 1300euro (or less in my case) I reckon it's a great value guitar wherever you buy it. However, it seems they have discontinued the model, so it might be hard to find them now.

cheers
Michael
