FOUND: Pretty nice blanca

I am in the process of scraping together a few dollars to try to buy a decent blanca for my studies. I have been looking especially at guitars by Salvador Castillo and have been in conversation with him this week.

It occurred to me that before I order a new instrument I should check and see if any of you might have a nice budget instrument that needs a good home.

I'm open to most anything. I need a few weeks to have all my funds together, but I think it would be helpful to see what else is out there while I work on it.

I'm undecided on pegs vs. machines, so either is ok.

I won't be able to spend more than about $2000 USD, but much less is certainly ok with me. :)

Thank you!

Hey Mitch,

You're playing your cards close to your chest.

What have found? C'mon, spill the beans.

I received a nice offer on a euro spruce/spanish cypress Castillo, so I'm excited about it.

Once I have it in my hands I'll take some photos and make a 'new guitar day' post. I love those. :)

Now I have to learn how to play the thing!

My first lesson is Thursday - wish me luck.

I think I read somewhere you had a Jose Ramirez 1a before. Did you sell it? How does/did it sound?

I did!

That was an amazing sounding guitar in the right hands. For some reason though, it sounded like crap when I played it. :)

I took a few flamenco lessons several years ago and traded a very nice classical of mine for the Ramirez. Every local flamenco pro I let try it raved about it. It had some magic to it - dry, old school flamenco tone.

I got sidetracked soon after starting lessons and sold it. I almost forgot about that one!

I mean it this time though - I'm gonna' stick with it. I really love flamenco, so I'm not going to let myself give up easily this time.

Congrats Mitch! I got to try a Salvador Castillo a few weeks ago. I am very very impressed.

Nice choice man.

I was on the verge of buying the same guitar myself but I thought I'd just hold back till my playing improved.

Now you've just got to hammer the hell out of it for about 18 months to get it sounding great.

OK - a few teaser pics for you. These are from the seller - I will take more when I get it, but for now these will have to do.

I think it's beautiful. I hope I can do it justice someday...
