Shipping guitars overseas

What is the best way to do it...I'm trying to get a guitar to Greece from the US. UPS and DHL are both telling me $600, and I don't think the post office will do it (too big).
That's way too much...is there a better way???

Buy yourself a plane ticket and enjoy some ouzo and rembetiko while bringing your guitar...

or maybe air freight? never tried it myself, here's one

Damians Maldonado cost $1200AD shipping from spain to australia via fedex. Think it is the reality...also the %18 tax once it hits our shores.........go with the airfare.
OR
You can take an old guitar with you. [ i suggest a $80 valencia}, leave it there, put the new one in for the return....stick it to the man!
buy a good case before you go
