a little travel to Spain fun etc

i just checked out some really cheap flights to Spain.

im going to treat myself a week to 10 days, id love to get some lessons focusing just on compass, and see some sites, and enjoy a spot of food and maybe a performance or jam and see some guitar builders.

only thing must be real cheap , i mean 15Euro a night some where (even on a floor) , and one done the same and recommendations , i know i must see the Alhambra, and have a lesson or 4 (but super cheap.

im thinking Cadiz /helva/granada ish.?

any contacts of teachers would be cool or places to go on the Cheap!

if you want to visit Alhambra, make reservation of ticket in advance. even before you go to spain.
i remember that i had to do this, otherwise no chance to be let inside.
i don't know if that was a special time (it was August/September).
maybe now it is different, but ask.

right on your way walking to Alhambra, there is also the workshop of Bellido (hmm, but i think he retired? i am not sure).

Cordoba is also good (Mezquita!)

And Sevilla (Bull Fights ) and many other nice things there

if anyone is around after the 20th and wants to catch up for a few drinks , play, anything let me know .

what are some other things people would do in that short time ?

Let us know what dates you book your flights for and I will post any big gigs I hear about. But really you will know already I'm sure that the best 'gigs' just happen and you just happen to be there in some intimate smokey bar, you just have to hang out and see what happens.

For cheap accomodation check out couch surfing ! Or look for hostels, you will end up sharing a room with 10 others on bunk beds. I once got a room in Madrid for 6 euros a night, fine if you dont get claustrophobia . It was really a cupboard !!!!

Its possible to travel round Andalucia and see most of the cities on the bus in a relatively short time. Our first visit ever was only 10 days and we got to see Sevilla, Cordoba, Granada and Malaga as well as chill out on the beach. Be flexible and stay where you find the right thing happening for you.

keep us posted

id love to be able to get through bulerias and fandangos de heulva after 2 weeks in spain, even if im just playing marked chords and can hear /understand the compas.

any must eat places to expierence must eat local foods ?

anyideas by any one wouyld be really great.

also anyon living around Andalusia, if u want to meet up , beer chat music and life , id love that also.

cheers for any advice my dates.

Hee MD, great that you managed your trip to spain, you'll love it!
About the compass my friend....try to study it in small pieces, and do that everyday or so.
Do not switch to alegrias, fandangos, bulerias, tangos, seguiriyas, verdiales all in one day...(I know you a little my friend )....
It needs serious attention....I have problems with it myselves...(like you the concentration disorder)...but ban every distraction out and try for 20 minutes, than have a break.....it'll pay out even more quickly than you think.

Enjoy your trip to Spain!

actually having to reserve tickets to the Alhambra is a myth, you can get tickets for the same day if you go into one of the banks that provide this service, they reserve the ticket for you and just get your tickets on the spot...the price is the same, and you can watch the other long line while you're smiling...i'm not sure about the exact process unfortunately because my then girlfriend who had been living there for months did this...but surely someone who lives in Granada knows what to do exactly...

Those of us who live here rarely go to the Alhambra these days. The locals used to be able to get in free every Sunday but that has stopped. Then we used to just slip in the back entrance and avoid paying but I bet that is well covered by security these days

Also noticed recently the entrance fee has gone from 7 euros to 21 euros !!! You used to buy a ticket and it worked for 2 whole days, now you get half an hour in the Nazarine. if you get caught after your time has expired you have to buy another ticket !! So no wonder we dont go !!

But yes you can buy tickets via the cashpoints, not that I have done this for Alhambra I have done it for tickets for the Jerez Festival.

Also 30 % of tickets are kept back to be sold on the day, you just have to get up early and queue.

So you got booked into Granada, well we will have to meet up. Pimiento and I am sure can manage a local menu del día with you and give you the low down though I will be in Jerez when you get here and will only be back in Granada a few days before I am off to Wales for a week so I wont have much time I'm afraid. Still Granada it is easy to make friends.

You will find it cheaper to go Marrakesh direct from London on easy jet I think. From Andalucia the ferry is expensive and then train to Marrakesh. Also takes a chunk out of your Andalucia time even though Marrakesh is amazing I'd do it as a seperate thing. From Granada you can do cheap bus to Sevilla and Cordoba which would be as good if you have not been there.

Places to hang out, well you will soon discover the Sacromonte and the bars there where you can hang out late and catch the locals like Juan Habichuela Nieto playing in his dad's bar or Pepe Luis in his bar. Local food is free with a beer so you just bar hop with your group and you'll probably end up trying everything.

You are going to have fun ! You can PM me and I'll send my mobile number.

Glad You enjoyed Granada, sorry not to meet up. I was in Jerez for festival while Harold was working there then went to Cardiff while Harold went to Barcelona and La Linea doing shows. ALso I got a new phone which does not work so was not getting any calls as they were still going through to my old phone stuck in a drawer at home.

So who did you see play, who did you meet, tell us about your teachers at the school. Any photos ???
