Dance Class!

Hi folks!

I dont get to post here much of late but had to just mention I played (properly) for my first dance class today....I went the other week but just sat in and watched as the class prgressed with a CD player.

This week I played some solea to warm up and then worked on farruca.

second class we did sevillanas and alegrias!

I dont know what i was worried about as it went very well!!
Wish id done this sooner!!!

I stayed on afterwards and worked with the teacher for a bit which was cool.

I now have to make sure i can play a lengthy alegrias for next week as they are working on this for the final piece.

Anyone have any tabs for alegrias for dance?? got some but want more!!

Thanks folks

Stu

congrats! i bet you're feeling ecstatic right now. is she going to pay you? stick around, be consistent and keep showing up. it'll pay off.

as for alegrias stuff, the things i play for dance class, i learned from jason's site. the things i've seen from books so far work well for solo guitar and not so much for dance.

Wow well done Stu!! It sounds like we had pretty similar experiences this week - I went a couple of weeks ago to a class, and like you listened to the CD, played along a bit and watched while they danced. Then did a sevillana at the end that I COMPLETELY messed up (too many twiddly solo-ish bits and not enough cojones - they were lost) so left wanting to dig myself a hole and jump in it.

I took a week off to lick my wounds and sort out my playing, went back this week and redeemed myself!! Did a sevillana, everyone enjoyed it, and we're going to do farrucca next!

Sorry to muscle in on your thread but it's so nice to know other people are doing similar things!! Good luck with the alegria,

Jenny

Hi Stu (and Jenny)

Excellent to hear about what you're up to

I've just got back from a dance class in Liverpool.

Louis_B is now their regular guitarist - I'm the taxi/roadie

You live in London?
If i remember right, i think an average pizza there costs almost as much as one monthly subscription at Jasons site

You do remember rightly! its a good point because all delivery pizzas are pretty shocking standard anyway, so the next time I'm about to get a delivery pizza I'll use it to sign up to Jasons site!.... and have a sandwich!

Firstly my respect and support to Jenny and Stu for braving the dance class. I find it can be daunting entering a new situation but I also know I can be a harder judge of my playing than necessary.

I also highly recommend Jason's site, (the foro probably knows that by now!) hard to spend money any better- other than 29p to get RATM to number one last year. The best 29p I ever spent.

As far as getting paid. I think some sensitivity to each situation is needed.

The point comes when to progress one will be doing professional jobs. If one is doing the job of a professional I believe one should charge.

The harm in not doing so can be that those guitarists who are professional may then be undercut and out of work.

I am in that middle ground. I am an aficionado and always happy to play, I am not a professional but I do quite often do professional jobs and I always charge, whether for classes or performances.

Thanks orson!

Yeah I understand the points about being paid but at the moment its like I am being paid! every minute of those lessons I'm like a kid in a sweet shop!

so they did make number one?!?! I had mixed feelings about that campaign....obviously id much rather listen to RATM than whicever other ****s were gunning for number one....BUT....wasnt rage against the machines whole deal Anti Establishment???
I mean why would they wanna be number one in some phoney chart that claims to represent music?? POP music?
