High or Normal Tension Strings for b...

Hello, i have a question. Do i have to use High tension strings or Normal just to reach the best flamenco sound? I know that the strings depends on each guitarist but i suppose that the sound changes, depends on strings. If i use Normal tension strings, will i get the tone that reaches flamenco style?

Thank you..

Also depends on your guitar. You just have to experiment.

In my experience I always find that normal tension brings out much more flamenco character than high, more rasp, growl etc. The high may go dead in the bass quicker also. They slow the response down especially on a lightly built guitar. Still, a firmly g=built low action could take it if thats what you want..

in my opinion high tension is better for flamenco guitar.especially when I play picado or alzapua or those kind of tecniques l feel more comfortable.
it sounds more flamenco for me...
l use low tension to play classical guitar to give that soft feeling...

String Saga's

Med Tension but with high tension G

OR

Med Tension basses, High Tension trebles [agree with barisyavuz on picado alzapua..though go hard/xtra hard for classical]

Still mixing this around.
Using luthiers.

Ordered most avail sets on 'strings by mail' site. good to deal with.
settled on luthiers but theres many more good brands out there
the instrument has alot to do with it.....

on the same guitar, the hard tension basses will add volume and bass power. The hard tension trebles usually make for dull rasgueados. You need lighter snappy trebles, but the basses with hard tension might be ok. You do want SOME buzz for brightness in the basses.

Thanks Ricardo
now know what to do with all those half packet's of strings
kudo's on the links on other threads..priceless..literally!...
think after all this experimentation looks like a set of med tension will produce the consistency....

With all these mixes i suppose that you have to change all the strings to find the best sound. In my opinion, we need Normal basses, high tension G and normal trebles. But we have to change often the basses. I have used Hannabach Basses and i want to try the D' Adario Titanium Trebles. I have heard good reviews.

With the high tension trebs, save em and take up a hobby making traditional cejillas. For the basses you don't use, send em to me, I will use em whatever they are.

About the high tension G string, I think that is gonna be the fattest and dullest string if it is harder tension. That is why they make that sill composite set with a weird skinny G string sometimes.....or even older brands would make a wound G string. I never had a problem with a normal G string to whatever set.

Sort of goes into the direction i always say: why dont they make a string set where all the strings have the same tension??? In a single set, the e (ebgDAE) and D strings have the highest tension. That sucks on tension-sensitive techniques, like when you play arepeggio on the strings 1,2,3 = ami. I often get stuck with the anular finger for example. Am i the only one that thinks this way? Yes you can get used to playing with a normal set, but why not make life easier?

Savarez makes split sets.

Also, you can buy individual strings from http://www.juststrings.com/ and probably other online suppliers as well.

Normal tension for flamenco.

High tensions dont buzz and snap.

They do with string height adjusted just right which more often than not is a hair lower than for medium tension.
