An online workshop for Alzapua by Ch...

I am trying to help organize a 5 week Alzapua workshop for my dear friend Chuscales. He has one of the best alzapua techniques of anyone anywhere and played a huge part in my development as a player. Over the 5 week course students will be guided with direct video feedback by Chusco who will be going into depth about how to develop speed and power with this most flamenco of techniques. The workshops will be hosted at AshburyMusicHall.com, a new online learning system that puts teachers in touch with students in an easy to manage way for both parties.

The workshop is not prepared yet, but I am lobbying to get him on staff at Ashbury Music Hall as well as trying to gauge the interest in such a course with members here. If it is a success it will make it possible to study with a truly wonderful player who brings his amazing gifts directly from the caves of the Sacramonte. By combining the benefits of technology with great first hand knowledge it is possible to bring a new understanding of flamenco to those on the flamenco journey.

I have proposed that Chusco do 2 workshops to start and the Alzapua one is a must given his amazing gift for the technique. The other will likely be a beginners course of some sort which is yet to be determined. We are open to suggestions, so don't be shy.

If interested, I urge you to send a message voicing your support for such a workshop visit the following link and mention "Flamenco Workshops by Chuscales" in the subject line.

There is also a wonderful private lesson system there by which Chusco and the student can exchange video messages on a weekly basis. This is a great opportunity also to help guide the way the workshops will be set up.

Here is an old video that was posted here in the past that demonstrates both his amazing alzapua and personality.

Chusco is an amazing player. There isn't much out there on the from him and his 2 albums are commercial in nature as they were produced by Ottmar Liebert. This fact confuses many about the nature of Chusco's music..... There are things he knows and he knows them from that very enigmatic Gitano point of view.

Thanks to all of you that have written to AsburyMusicHall.com in support for his classes.
Chusco appreciates it and so do I.

Jason

Hi Jason!

I'm not quite sure if this is an over 5 week course in the USA or something that Chuscales will be making available to worldwide internet audiences by private subscription?

I like all sorts of thumb technique.... I just like the sound.

So I would be interested in being able to view his lessons, without sending videos back for his assessment or Skype lessons etc....(too old now to care! )

It would just be out of aficion and interest in my own case.

So if that is the case, then I will certainly support the project so long as it's not gonna cost me heaps of dollars.

He's got a great thumb technique overall. Totally brilliant player.

Can you clarify what the project is exactly?

cheers,

Ron

I met Chuscales in 1996. He is a tremendous player, with tons of ideas. His alzapua is simply out of this world.

I just spoke with the Ashbury Music Hall people and Chusco.... he will begin by teaching private lessons on their system.... MUCH better than Skype and the intereaction spans a week... he gives the assignment, you formulate questions, he answers and finally toward the end of the week you upload a video for critique.

There has been an enormous response and that is just what Chusco needed to get their attention. Thanks to all.

The Alzapua course and other great courses will take time to create but the ball is rolling and I will keep us informed about the developement.

Hey Jason,

Looks like your lobbying is paying off. I went to the website and put in the request and this is the response email I received:

Hello Todd. We are in touch with Chuscales and will soon be offering private lessons from him. We also plan to offer an extended course from him in the very near future. His private lessons should become available in the next week or so. As soon as we have finished construction on the lesson page for Chuscales we will contact you with the link to the lessons so that you may begin.

Ron.... you could always take the class and not do your homework assignments. Kind of like some of us did in high school.....

The details will be forth coming. You can also submit course recommendations and suggestions to the same link. It will make a difference because they are in the planning stages for Chusco's classes.

I doubt there will be the VOLUME of classes that I have at my website, but the lessons that will be available will certainly be valuable stuff that is unlikely to be found elsewhere. The workshops will be priced for each workshop and students have access to the videos for longer than that... I think 1 year is what I remember off the top of me head..... so its not a subscription site like mine.

Wow this is awesome news. Chuscales is one of most amazing guitarists I have ever seen in any musical genre. His alzapua is off the gancha.

I said it in the previous Chuscales thread we had here some time, but holy ****. That guy is just...it blows my brain into pieces. The alzapua was already mentioned. But the arpegios are so amazingly blazing fast and yet so crisp. And those rasgeados at the very end? Holy ****.

As much as I would love to get some lessons from him, I don't think I would be able to take anything away from it at this moment considering my current level. I am planning to spend a year in Spain starting the coming summer. Maybe by the time I am done with that, I am good enough...hope he would still have this going by then.

Chusco has a way of clarifying complex things and showing a player that you can understand things that you hands cannot yet do and that through patience and perseverance a student can obtain "the batteries" to power such technical devices.
Time is the battery that powers technique. You can't sit around and wait to be good enough. You take opportunities to break down the walls that start the process of learning and developing...... as Chusco says in that Alegrias video..... "it takes time."

Chusco is the kind of teacher who can put information into the heart of a player simply through his warmth and kindness. It goes beyond language. Others who know him can vouch for that.
