Change of pace

just came back from a beginners flamenco dance technique class with felipe de algeciras held here in limerick.
my legs are sore, my shoulders are sore, everywhere is sore.

i never knew how hard and the coordinartion required for flamenco dance.
i did just to try it out for the fun, it was a great class lots if arm movements and basic footwork. i will not be putting down the guitar anytime soon, but i think i will take a couple of more as id like to learn the basics and maybe some day do a few "patadas por buleria"

suerte

henry

That's great! Something I always wanted to try as well, but didn't get around to doing it yet (like lots of stuff...)

I think it adds to your guitar skills knows some dance steps, I believe it should help understand the compas, in particular when you accompany dance. I learn a lot when I accompany dance just from seeing the teacher teach the moves to the class. Not to mention that it must be fun...

I also wanted to learn cante a bit, same motivation, should help in the guitar playing, but afraid my voice is more suited for a crow than a cantaor...

Good for you Henry! And when someone grabs your guitar and makes you do a bit of bulerias in the fin de fiesta, it will all pay off - you will be a star.

I've not done any of Felipe's classes but I know he's highly thought of as a teacher, and I've seen him dance in London. Mark indigo's partner Bridget is organising some workshops for him in Norwich too.

i wore hard sole shoes for it, but the foot work was the most difficult part of it. i felt like i was in irish dancing class again when i was 8yrs of age, really awkward, no coordination or timing of the legs. and i thought i would have picked it up better since ive done a ton of martial arts involving the learning of set patterns of movement.

also the whole aesthethics of how a dancer should be, head held high, no slouching, straight body etc.

the arm movement stuff was a bit more of what i was expecting.
