I don't use the Internet explorer. I heard hackers are most familiar with the Internet explorer..
But I saw superman was doing commercials for the IE8 on stupidvideos.com... So it cant be so bad.
Ron, with Internet-software I would do exceptions. The newer versions have a lot of gimmicks you don't need, but they are also saver against hacker-attacks. I would recommend you to use firefox.
Anyone got any experiences with this upgrade, good or bad?
Hi Ron, It's OK - I run it on Windows 7 at work, no issues - but you may have to run it in "compatibility mode" for some web sites. Don't think it will make much difference to your experience though it is faster than IE7 with some more security. I would stay where you are myself. Firefox is always an option
OK, I think I'll just stay with what I've got until this computer packs up and I get a new one with all new software etc.
Can't say I've had any real bother with Hackers or viruses etc in all the years I've been using IE.
However... when my daughter was using it while I was trying to fix her one, I got a heap of Trojans and Malware from her visits to free mp3 sites and free games sites and from clicking on "promos" etc...
Her own computer must have a total infestation of these things by now, but luckily she does no financial transactions or anything critical on hers.
Hey Ron, try out Firefox Browser. I love it. imo it is faster and safer than IE. And you can install it together with IE (you don't need to delete IE or something). And you can import all favourites,etc. from IE.
Google Chrome is very fast too. But i hate their "information collecting" policy. So i don't install it.
i use internet explorer 8 for watching movies. dont really notice anything different. i mainly use firefox. and i agree with doit about upgrading for safety's sake.
FIREFOX all the way. Safer, faster, easier to use, customizable, loads of essential add ons, (fun ones, security ones and make life easier ones.) and its open source! what more could one wish for!?!?
Well, I finally had to install IE8, since I was getting prompts from YouTube that they were phasing out support for IE6.
Result?
Cumbersome, difficult to configure without consulting "Help", a blown up version of workable IE6 with flashy add-ons and gizmos for which I had no use. Had glitches in deleting cookies and web pages whether you wanted it or not and other stuff, like more screen space getting taken up with a 'favorites' star and an empty row across the screen, because Microsoft thought you would love it so much that they don't allow you to remove it.
Too quirky and annoying for my needs IMO.
I finally got fed up with it and since I could not go back to IE6, I downloaded the new Firefox Browser on the advice of Stu.
As an old grumpy fart, I started out skeptical, thinking this would be something new that would take me ages to learn...
Instead, it was really easy to use and configure...just intuitively, without having to consult additional documentation.
Smooth and easy to use and configure to your own requirements.
In short....very impressed!

Not so fast. Most folks have no idea what Microsoft really do on a daily basis. SQL Server, BizTalk, SharePoint, BPOS etc....
It's an enterprise company. For example, I am currently figuring out the IT strategy for a rather large airport, from check-in to runway management. All on my own. The resulting architecture and commercial deal will be anything over £12m. (remember, that's just one guy and there are thousands of us). In the process, we will blow away Oracle and IBM.
My last gig redefined local government service levels to a large capital city, including free Wi-Fi, SMS alerts and citizen self-service for all primary interactions - end to end.

What the man in the street sees is just the tip of the iceberg. Oh, and it also pays the £400 a year for this place out of my salary - yes, the files and database are THAT big.
I've NEVER been a Microsoft "knocker"...to be honest, I've never been that interested as a non-IT guy, but just a user.
I've used every Microsoft product for the last 15 years or so and thought it was fine.
As an Engineer myself, I'm never impressed by presentation...only what the thing actually does.
I was quite surprised on getting my Visual Basic 5 on reading the notes which said something like...
"Always try to keep the user busy and of the impression that something is happening while long programs are retrieved from disk, by putting little animations etc to keep them occupied."
This put me in mind of the reason why I left the Oil Industry, where my role as a genuine and science orientated Design Engineer slowly developed into backing up the Sales Team as a "**** Engineer", but with technical credibility to add more "oomph" to pie-in-the-sky claims to potential investors with cheque books and large bank accounts.
We eventually got to to making "mock-up" models (like you'd see on a Spielberg Film Set) which did incredible things so everyone would be impressed.
We were nowhere near that technology, but the "magic box" hinted that we were to the assembled audience, so they'd better get their money in now before it takes off!
It was hard to blame the management, 'cos things had reached a peak and was falling rapidly downwards and a lot of companies going under and folk getting laid off.
Everybody did what they could to stay alive.
I eventually couldn't stand it anymore and quit to pursue "a small country living"
Do I regret it?
Well, I regret the big paycheck, but I don't regret not having to drive 20 miles a day into work and back through hail, rain and ****.
I value the fact that I was here all the time when my daughter was growing up and being of good service to the local community.
Well, it wasn't so frantic as that, but a much smoother over-the-head sell to those Edinburgh bankers and investors who were set on putting their money on the next big thing...whether it was imminent or not.
It's just the Big Sell thing that eveybody in business gets involved with.
That's how the present financial crisis came about...

In the long run though,the Businessmen and Politicians are good at getting the money in, so the others have no business putting them down, since it pays their wages and funds their lifestyles.
At the end of the day, we all lean on each other to survive...

That's why I have so much repect for sincere musicians of all genres.
I'm not to wild about where firefox is headed, so i usually use opera. its got alot of shortcut keys that ff doesn't which for me is a plus. open source and shortcut keys= less mouse time = more speedy browsing
