Well...It's a Rafael Moreno and not a Rafael Romero...
It's just not the same... By the way I play one of Romero's guitar and it's so charming..has that nerve-vibrating bite...

Blaming the nail marks on Pepe H. sounds lame to me. By seeing them all play, I would say the Romeros put those marks on it, not Pepe H.! Anyway, using his name or anyone's name is marketing. There are no "magic" guitars it just depends on who is playing one.

It sucks to have to sell a good guitar for money, if that is what it is about and it usually is. It is like "hmm, which finger don't I need. I guess the pinky...but that one wont' get me as much money as one of the others...."

Speaking of which...ah hem....check out the classified section...

Regarding Moreno guitars I played a negra a year ago and it was good but not my cup of tea. I think it sounded more towards classical than flamenco but that could be due to the rosewood.

I've played 2 Rafa Romero.. my brother owns a good one 1a but I've played another one 2a Andalucia model and it sounded very good. I was impressed by it so I guess its it or miss like most guitars. I think there is one La Falseta's site Andalucia for a good price. He was selling a lot of those a few years ago.

Agree with Ricardo..

Well I play andalucia modell as well, but a bit different from that is for sale at Lafalseta right now. In spite both were made in 2005 july, my guitar has 12 tied bridge, and the cypress looks quite different...also changed some things: replaced the tuners to a fancy, black Rubner, and the nut/saddle to some special thing by graph-tech, so it'a also black..

It was constructed for olé-flamenco, which -as far as I know- dissapeared since then..

Hi Jim,
no, it's not a shadow neither ebony... it's a special material produced by the graph-tech labs in canada..You can easily find them if You look for it...

I use trem-nut and string-saver saddles. It's not that it's just black, but also has even better qualities to the sound than bone! - At least that's said by graph-tech..

And as for my experience, it works! It gave more qualities to the sound of my guitar, it became even more crystal-clean, and a little more aggressive...one of my friends I play together with, has also installed it to his Sanchis Carpio negra, and it was so different! He didn't even realized -due to the sound- that his ( D and A) strings was about to broke! a minute right before our concert!

So that was the reason he had constant tuning problems -that imiJ mentioned-during that concert even we had a tuner! :)

RE: wheres my guitar ?? (in reply to minordjango

are these nuts and saddles the ones made by tusq?
on their website, they say the tuning is enhanced too because the nut is slippery so the string doesn't catch.

i have to make a new saddle and nut. if they really work, i might give them a shot. i wish they came in traditional white though.

The price of this guitar is crazy. I would never pay that much for a guitar. The soundsample... is not usefull, since we know the sound can be modifyed till you like it. Well.. for that price I would have given the guitar so someone who can play guitar to record a sample for this.. It sounds like somebody raped the guitar..

My opinion. No matter who touched this guitar. Dont buy it, its too expensive.

at_leo_87, tusq is the white stuff. Why would you need something super slippery anyway? Smoothly filed bone works as good as anything else. It's not like flamenco guitars have Floyd Roses or Kahlers, our strings don't move that much.

Yes, the tusq is originally white, or to be more precise it has similar color like bone..

well I'm not sure about what kovachian says, cause during rumba technics or whatever, I think the strings can move on quite hardly, and this nut means some more flexibility. Of course this wasn't the first reason I gave it a try, but the different sound. The website of graph-tech changed so far, and I didn't browsed it over again since that, but they used to have quite detailed information about how this material changes the sound in several ways. I choose the black ones, cause I thought it's gonna match with the new tuners which I liked a lot.

anyway, it's not a must, it's just an option I've decided to choose, and after all I'm satisfied with the sound AND the look as well...
By the way the luthier who installed and carved them to perfectly fit size mentioned that it was so easy to work with it, and he liked it alot...

These guys names are so similar that they are always being confused. This is Rafael Moreno who looks a bit like Santa! He is a real gentleman, full of stories and enjoys a glass of good red wine now and again. I played a negra of his for a while and thought it was a fantastic guitar but the zavaletas price is pretty steep. $6950 is 4998 Euros. You can get that model direct from him for a little under 4000 euros now. $1400 extra just because Pepe Habichuela tried it out once is a bit overpriced IMO.

P.s . I agree that the negras sound a bit classical but the projection is great and very comfortable to play.
