Nino de Pura

I also saw a video of Nino de Pura today. I have been interested in him because he is a faculty member of my school, although he has been out of town and I haven´t met him. The rap on him is that his hand position is quite unusual in that he holds his wrist completely straight for his picado runs, and in an abnormally straight fashion for other things as well. As a result, the head of his guitar is angled upward almost like a classical guitar.

This is very interesting to me because I have problems with my wrist. Changing to this position opened up a whole new world of speed and strength, especially for my picado! I heartily recommend to anyone that they should try it, at least to get an idea of its potential.

He is a monster, technically, as a composer, a mouse. I am not joking when I say this guy would get played on KYOT, the light jazz station where I live, with no problem. I´m talking about his siguriyas (just joking, but his rumba has what amounts to an hallelujah choir on it!). He plays very clean, very powerfully, and very fast. I would love to have his technique.

Niño de Pura is amazing. I totally agree with you on hit technique…OUTSTANDING! I first heard him on the Auroroa Vargas album “Acero Frio,” Sheer brilliance! I’ve only heard one of his solo albums & I think it’s fantastic.
What a player.

Hi Gals and Guys!!!!
Sorry I've been to busy to post but try to follow all discussions.
Recently Niño de Pura was on Saltillo on a Guitar Festival here in México. I did not assist but you can see a little of him in this Link

"Video del VIII. Festival Internacional de Guitarra del Noreste en Saltillo"
at the right side of the page

http://www.guitarrisimo.com/index_es.htm

Is a site containing all the guitar activity in Mexico and has good articles which are very interesting to follow.

Un Abrazo a Todos!!
