Ed Guerin has posted a useful collection of headstock designs at

the password and UID are "flamenco" and "flamenco"

Useful for learning to identify guitars from a distance without seeing the labels.

Great work! As many headstocks as there are shown, there must be tons and tons that aren't. I can think of a few luthiers right off the top of my head, I'll see what I can dig up.

By the way this is limited to luthier guitars, correct? No Yamaha/Cordoba/etc stuff allowed?

Thanks, kovachian. I included a few factory guitars. No reason not to include everything. My original purpose was simply to learn to recognize guitars from their headstocks. I'm mostly interested in luthier-made guitars, so that formed the bulk of the photos I got, but I'd like to be able to recognize them all.

I any case, I'm not going to set any rules as to what people can add. I'd suggest that people try to include the date and if possible the model -- I'm beginning to learn that a few luthiers use different headstocks for student models vs concert grade, and some changed their design over time (modern Ramirez are a cheesy imitation of the older ones). Conde media-luna shapes seem to show variation that give hints as to which luthier in their shop made the guitar, even though they all have the same basic pattern. It would be handy to have representatives of headstocks cut by different brothers.

But no rules. Let's just build a library.
