Ondajerez

First of all, what's with the yellow balls under each member's name? I've got three balls, but I see a lot of people have five. So of course I thought, girls only get three. But then I saw Kate has five! How can I get more balls?

Seriously though...Simon didn't seem to know about the great radio and TV broadcasts from Jerez at www.ondajerez.com. I listen to the radio program every night, Monday to Friday, 9-10pm CET (3pm EST) and try to catch the TV, but can never remember when it is. Phil or someone who knows, could you please post a complete list of the flamenco TV programs that Ondajerez broadcasts?

For anyone who doesn't know the page: you click on the boxes at the upper right of the page, right-hand box for radio, left-hand box for TV.

Estela,
I rarley catch the TV program because I always forget. I usually remember after it's over.
However, the ondajerez web site has a program listing with days and times.

Estela,
I missed it again! I didn't follow my own advice adn look up the time on the web site. I ran over to the TV, turned it on, saw that another program was on, and figured that I had missed it . Apparently it started a few minutes later! My number one gripe with Spanish TV is that nothing starts at the same time each week.

Andy,
El Torta is Juan Moneo. The Moneo clan is a well known Flamenco family from Jerez. If you have the film Flamenco by Carlos Saura, El Torta's brother Manuel is the one that sings Martinetes "mano a mano" with Agujetas. There are also some young guitarists from this family: Juan Manuel Moneo and Juan Moneo. (Too many Juan's in that family )

It just so happens that several members of the Moneo family are spending the summer where I live, Rota. I met Manuel and his nephew, the guitarist Juan Manuel last week. I've met the guitarist Juan Moneo several times, as he still takes an occasional lesson with El Carbonero. Estela gets to meet these people all the time, but I still get excited when I meet an artist that I admire. I don't want you to think that I'm bragging or name dropping. It's more like someone saying, "Hey, I saw Harrison Ford walking down the street yesterday and I spoke to him!" I just want to share my excitement with someone. My wife has no interest in Flamenco and when I told her that that's Manuel Moneo sitting at the next table she just looked at me and said, "Who's he?"

Andy, El Torta is Juan Moneo, brother of Manuel Moneo the round-faced gentleman who sings martinete right after (or before) Agujetas in the Saura film. Torta had some serious problems with drugs and alcohol then became a born-again Christian and now he won't even smoke. He made a big comeback last year and has the kind of following Camarón had before he died.

I should have scrolled down and finished reading before answering, I see Phil identified Torta. He came to the peña here in Morón last winter and everyone fell in love with him. He's got a kind of savage innocence, very unpolished. Manuel Moneo is coming to the Gazpacho tomorrow night...and Luis el Zambo, one of my favorites.
