PRS have a tendency to act like stormtroopers and this can be counterproductive.

They've certainly become much more pro-active here in the last year.

They are targeting workers who play radios in garage workshops and building sites etc if their co-workers can hear it too, in which case they threaten the business owner with legal action if they don't pay for a PRS licence.

I've had 3 strongly worded letters from them so far and I just work on my own!
I decided to phone them to ask them to quit sending me this stuff and the guy gave me the third degree before he was tentatively satisfied that I was not contravening their rules.

cheers,

Ron

Hi Val,

I've got an Electronics repair service that I run from a home workshop.
My adverts run in the local papers, so I guess they lifted it from that as do others selling Business Insurance, Van rental etc etc.

I chucked the first couple of letters in the bin, but they wouldn't give up.
I'm interested to see what happens now...like if they send round an inspector or something, just to check up on me!

cheers,

Ron

That wouldnt bother me. But if they would block all faceplants, scarepranks, mentos-cola-bomb-videos and "strange animal-videos"... THAT WOULD BUG ME!

Hola

When I produced my first record of Juan Silva they tried to tell me I had to pay for all the tracks, though only one had letras which were not traditional. I told them I would not pay them for recording traditional cante with traditional letras and they threatened to take me to court. I told them to F.... off and that I would defend myself and demand costs.

Never heard any more, but they hassled me again over the first Cd of Toma Castaña (a villancicos flamenco group). They turned up just before the first performance in the Gran Teatro Falla, when everyone was high on nerves and made themselves very unpleasant. No saben estar. They are doing as much harm as good, though I myself am obviously against piracy.

The solution is obvious; you can listen to the radio while you work, but as soon as a customer shows up you'll have to turn it off or you'll have to pay the licence fee for public performance!

So now you can be prepared for the inspector - the knock on the door in the day.

Surely this was not PRS, but SGAE, no?

No. They wanted to prosecute the accompanying CD. The PRS has a real gift for making enemies out of friends.

That's really weird. Hard to believe that they would spend potential royalty money sending people overseas to persecute you!

Well, the way Sean's been talking about it, I'm fearing a battering ram on the front door at 4am in the morning, with cries of "armed police... freeze!"

(Why do the cops always do that stuff? Do they sit in the staff canteen on the nightshift, drinking tea and eating biscuits and watching "The Sweeney" on DVD or Video and then decide to do something for a bit of an adrenelin rush before they go home?)

cheers,

Ron
