Alfonso Salmerón in Peña Duende

The folks at Peña Duende in Madrid have uploaded another video of a singer who'll be performing there. This time, it's Alfonso Salmerón singing cantiñas to the accompaniment of the house guitarist Pepe Núñez. Notice how he imitates Chaqueta's voice in the romeras (Debajo de los laureles) and Pepe's use of bass-string octaves throughout the performance.

Here's the link; you have to scroll down to the February dates and click on the link to the video:

They'll be taking down the video after Alfonso's performance on 22 February, so catch it while you can!

Thanks for posting this, Norman. I really liked it a lot. I even enjoyed the cajon playing, which I usually don't like at all. I didn't catch what you meant by the use of bass-string octaves. Do you mean that he's just playing octaves instead of chords? Upon a first listen I couldn't hear what you're refering to. I'll give it another shot...

Yeah, at a few points, he plays a note on a bass string, probably the sixth, and immediately follows it with another note played an octave up, probably on the fourth. He's certainly not the first or the only guitarist to do that, but it sounds good to me. Snappy!

Ah, o.k., I hear it now. Not something I would have noticed had it not been pointed out to me. Very simple, but effective. Thanks again.
