Yamaha CG171sf at Guitar Center

Hi everyone,

I've been a lurker for a while now, and I appreciate all of the useful info you post. I, like many other lurkers, don't have much to contribute since I not that great of a flamenco guitarist. However; I was at Guitar Center today and saw that they were selling new Yamaha CG171sf for $310. I purchased mine two months ago for $350, it is a great guitar for $350 and a steal for $310.

If it is not advertised at this price, offer $300-310 and there is a good chance they will let it go.

Cheers

Yes, I did that last night and she is still looking and sounding good! (even after the booze wore off!!) I could not believe a real cypress guitar for dirt cheap that held it's tuning and intonation like this? Good buy eh? $300.00 and a thousand in sound.

When I was looking for a Flamenco guitar last May I found a woman with an eBay store who offered to sell a CG171SF for $300. The price included shipping and there was no sales tax. I'm pretty sure the item would have been drop shipped to me directly from her wholesaler so there would have been no opportunity for her to split the stock--sometimes the guitar comes with a free gig bag, etc. I can't remember her name but it is possible to find sellers on eBay who will do this for you even if they don't have the particular item listed for sale or in stock. It's actually a pretty good deal for them since they make $50 or $75 for doing little more than making a phone call to their wholesaler. The downside is you can't hear it before you buy it and since they are not all equal in sound quality you could get stuck with a dud.

I tried a few of these instruments at Guitar Center and several were pretty impressive. The usual upgrades owners make include switching the saddle and nut for bone or Tusq to increase volume. I ended up with an Alhambra--nothing beats all solid tone woods and the smell of cypress coming from the sound whole--but it cost twice as much.
