Remake of Los Tarantos ( Tomatito an...

Last week all the flamencos de Granada were talking about one thing, the
remake of Los Tarantos, the film starring Carmen Amaya, only this time to be
staged as a theatre musical. Apparantly Tomatito and Chicuelo are to provide music live, not playback and it is to be directed by Javier la Torre.

Auditions were held here in Granada ( and all over Andalucia) last week
searching for dancers. By chance our sponsered dancer Andrés went along
to accompany a friend, not expecting to audition but was asked if he would.
His audition went very well and he has been put on the short list to play
the Romeo character and is now waiting to find out the results.

Meanwhile we are still trying to raise the money for this months fees for
his appeal to pay the Mario Maya School. We have €176 left in the pot and
every month we need €390. I recently had a wonderful email from a dancer
teacher from the dancer forum whose students have collected over €100 to
help Andrés, but even when that arrives we are still looking for another
€100 to reach our target for April.

In the future Andrés will pay us all back by becoming one of the best
dancers of his generation. If he gets the job with 'Lo Tarantos' I suggest we all get to Barcelona and see the show oh and meet Tomatito

In the meantime fingers crossed for Andrés and thank you again for all your
support and if there is anyone who wants to contribute and hasn't done so
yet, or wants to do so again, every little counts. Only three more months to
go.

By the way a journalist was at the auditions and published a piece the next day with a wonderful photo of Andrés, I shall it right now to Simon, and in the article she actually mentions his new dancing boots. Andrés could not work out why she talked about what he was wearing, but I think she was impressed with his elegance and style. Anyway the boots ( which we all helped buy) were noticed.

mil gracias
Kate

Thank you Pat, that's wonderful. I am happy to report that thanks to the donations that came in sinec my post we now have enough to pay for April and half of May, a total of €556 which is amazing as yesterday we were worried about how to pay for this months fee. Thanks to all of you who contributed. Andrés says "mil Gracias a todos ustedes" a big thank you.

Also Pat I have a feeling that my American friend did not send off any of the CDs as I asked her to. A promoter just got in touch saying he had never recieved his copy. Most annoying as many were for professional purposes, promoters or shops. I lefta box of 100 copies with her so we could save non postage from Europe. I shall call her and chase her up tonight and hopefully get you a copy in the post pronto. Let me know if you did receive anything as I am jusy guessing that none have been sent.

Thanks again and fingers crossed for Los Tarantos show. That would be an amzing step for Andrés and you can all take credit for helping him get there :)

Abrazos
Kate

Gracias Simon I checked my mail and its very much appreciated. With a bit of luck we may meet up in Barcelona but first I think Andrés and I may see you in Cordoba, as he is palmero for another dancer, and I am sick I missed Jerez and quite fancy a few days away if I can.

Mil gracias pa' to'
