Good player, but I think when you do a masterclass you have becareful not to "do your own thing". He should not have changed the fingering and handed Segovia the original version. It was sort of like saying "here old man, my way is better, now watch...".

I am not saying that it is right or wrong, or that there needs to be a "better fingering" for whatever, just that I am not surprised by Segovia's reaction. If you go to a masterclass and play your own compostion, what can the "master' really say to you about it? At least in the classical world.

Thank god flamenco guitar is not that way. I think it is funny when some classical guitarist think there can be such a thing as a "flamenco guitar masterclass". I will admit though in flamenco guitar, I have seen some students change the fingering of certain falsetas and my feeling is like "doh!! you just don't get the point do you!!". So I also understand the frustrations of Segovia as a teacher.

Well if you step into the lion's den, you might get bit. Guitarists knew that to play for Segovia in a masterclass was something that would enhance their resume in addition to whatever else they might derive from the experience. They also knew how brutal he could be. The guitarist was very diplomatic in the interview. I'd probably have been so upset, I'd have ripped him.
