NEW POLL-Youtube in uploads section?

Im interested in what you guys think about the all the youtube links in the upload section. I think its really changed the focus of the upload section from being orientated around members uploading their own playing and getting helpful feedback, to uploads of proffessional/famous players(which is still really good but changes focus). There used to be so many more people making uploads all the time and now it seems only and handful do. Maybe the youtube links of professionals should have a dedicated section?

I must admit ive hopped on quite a few links to great stuff on youtube from here that i probably would have never found just surfing youtube. I dont really care either way because i still like the youtube links but i have noticed a drop in member uploads maybe, or maybe its just dropped for other reasons....eehh, who cares. I still think it may be worth putiing a dedicated members material upload section though. To upload or not to upload...that is the question

I also agree - Too much confusing when it's mixing youtube or other links and member uploads. When I go to the upload section to be inspired by members' playing, it's boring to have to identify the members' uploads and avoid the external links. There are clearly "internal" and "external" material, and as there are a lot of upload now, why not make two sub-folders in the upload section ? (as long as it's not too much bothering for Simon...) And i think it's probably useful and interesting to keep a "youtube" section here. Because it's not quite the same of just going by ourself, individually, in youtube. Here members are "selecting" the vids for other members, adding a comment, a question or whatever to the vids. And thus starts a discussion, most time very interesting. So there is really an "added value" of having an external link section in my opinion, rather than if everybody go on his own to see some vids on youtube. And Ricardo, as a beginer, I will add a x) in your "afraid to post" list : 4) Fear of the comparison with the overall level (good level) (and youtube vids are adding to this "fear" when it's "pro" vids, and even when it's "amateurs" vids because of the bunch of moquery and insults when throw at these vids (and I like to do it also ) And for the "illegal" issue, it's not illegal for foroflamenco as long as it's only a link, not an embedded video/mp3/.... Youtube is making all it's possible to give the ability for other website to hold their vids, for business reasons, but in this situation you can be sued if the material is illegal. As far as I know, the legislation about copyright on the web still consider that making a link to an illegal material is not illegal. The illegal material must be ON your server to be sued...

4) Fear of the comparison with the overall level (good level) Really? Think about it though. Beginners have nothing to fear. It is the self promoted "pros" that should fear uploading material that does not cut it. You know, people like me. You know, people who dedicate their LIVES to it, then make a video and people say "that was sloppy" or "not good compas" or "where is the aire" or "that is not bulerias". Know what I mean? If you are just starting out and want feedback on the basics, where is the "fear" of your level? Either way, I lump the "comparison" thing in with criticism. And the thing about when we all make fun of "fire fingers" type players, well, do we really want to let a whole bunch of those types to feel comfortable posting their stuff on a flamenco forum? Actually I see nothing wrong with it, since all we could do is say "hey, that is not flamenco". Which has happened before. When folks get upset by that, if they don't post anymore, that is their own problem. I have not noticed a decline in people posting stuff. Some individuals get a harsh critique then disappear for a while. It is natural, not a fault of overall level intimidating youtube material. It has always been the same folks that post vids and mp3 etc. I noticed some new video uploads from certain members THANKS to youtube. But if the general concensus is to have a separate upload category, I guess it is not a problem. I seriously don't think it will result in a flood of beginner/intermediate level uploading, but I am not "against" it. Ricardo
