NEW POLL-Youtube in uploads section?

Im interested in what you guys think about the all the youtube links in the upload section. I think its really changed the focus of the upload section from being orientated around members uploading their own playing and getting helpful feedback, to uploads of proffessional/famous players(which is still really good but changes focus). There used to be so many more people making uploads all the time and now it seems only and handful do. Maybe the youtube links of professionals should have a dedicated section?

RE: NEW POLL-Youtube in uploads section? (in reply to Guest

its dead obvious

The onslaught of usless insuts from some members
has detured the average foro lurker
from even concidering offering himself up as a sacrifice to
those members lurking in wait for an attack

Until that stops only very good players that dont really need help
will post a video or mp3

As a daily lurker I dont have a problem with that
cuz I only wanna hear good stuff anyway
so ...... carry on

If its not SCOTTISH its CRAP

I totally agree with what you wrote about the uploads section. I actually wrote something similar a few month ago. I find that all the youtube links are totally destroying the idea of the section. Get them out!!!!

The problem with your polls is that there are to many options. It makes the signal effect muddy. Give us 2 - 3 options. Besides, I like polls.

if anyone would get into trouble it would be youtube for hosting those videos not us for watching it I would think.

and u can copy a youtube video anywhere thats why it has the embeded link hoping that u use it one your website whatever.

with that beeing said, mibe we should have a speciall section for it.

I find youtube very useful, and often inspiring. If a beginner or intermediate player is afraid to post his playing, after someone posted a vid or Paco de lucia on youtube, well, that is silly.

That is not why people shy away from putting up a video. The reasons are:
1. Don't know how to do it ie technical difficulty.
2. Fear of getting criticism. (Even myself or Todd, or Paco de lucia has this same fear. Part of being a performing artist unfortunately.)
3. Fear of being ignored all together. (like no one cares what they are doing).

Personally, I find the vid links of youtube that people find often educational and inspiring. And when they relate to other things we discuss, I don't see a point to have a "special section". Why not just go to youtube and hang out there then??

Well I agree that many videos of youtube are illegal and I think it wouldnt be a good idea to include tham in the forum.

I sometimes watch the videos on youtube, too. Its really entertaining. But only for a short duration. The uploaded played things of forum-members made me thinking much longer than anonymous videos on youtube. The professional videos are cool, but its much more amazing and entertaining for me to hear good suff of people who are here from time to time. f.e. Duendes compositions or Toddks alegrias. Or Ricardos stuff. And much more which I didnt mentioned here jet.

I think there is no need for youtube here. Its easy and fast enough to swith between youtube and the forum no?

A good new funktion of the forum would be a summary-page of the forummembers, where you can join if you wanna show your stuff. That would be ofcourse very intersting after a while.

I think it is convenient to put a link to a youtube vid here, when it is flamenco related. Youtube searching is not always getting everything you want. Also, several members have been using youtube to upload their own vids, because it is fast and easy, and you can get 10 mins worth if you want. Putting the link here makes it really easy for everyone.

I must admit ive hopped on quite a few links to great stuff on youtube from here that i probably would have never found just surfing youtube. I dont really care either way because i still like the youtube links but i have noticed a drop in member uploads maybe, or maybe its just dropped for other reasons....eehh, who cares. I still think it may be worth putiing a dedicated members material upload section though. To upload or not to upload...that is the question

RE: NEW POLL-Youtube in uploads section? (in reply to Anders Eliasson

I also agree - Too much confusing when it's mixing youtube or other links and member uploads. When I go to the upload section to be inspired by members' playing, it's boring to have to identify the members' uploads and avoid the external links. There are clearly "internal" and "external" material, and as there are a lot of upload now, why not make two sub-folders in the upload section ? (as long as it's not too much bothering for Simon...)

And i think it's probably useful and interesting to keep a "youtube" section here. Because it's not quite the same of just going by ourself, individually, in youtube.
Here members are "selecting" the vids for other members, adding a comment, a question or whatever to the vids. And thus starts a discussion, most time very interesting.
So there is really an "added value" of having an external link section in my opinion, rather than if everybody go on his own to see some vids on youtube.

And Ricardo, as a beginer, I will add a x) in your "afraid to post" list :
4) Fear of the comparison with the overall level (good level) (and youtube vids are adding to this "fear" when it's "pro" vids, and even when it's "amateurs" vids because of the bunch of moquery and insults when throw at these vids (and I like to do it also )

And for the "illegal" issue, it's not illegal for foroflamenco as long as it's only a link, not an embedded video/mp3/.... Youtube is making all it's possible to give the ability for other website to hold their vids, for business reasons, but in this situation you can be sued if the material is illegal. As far as I know, the legislation about copyright on the web still consider that making a link to an illegal material is not illegal. The illegal material must be ON your server to be sued...

Wow, i thought we were just kidding around with the "This pole sucks"
theme. I was just following the vibe of your "dont make me take a poll
on what people think of poles" line, wich i thought was hilarious.

Didnt mean to p i s s you off. sorry about that..

I thought we were just having fun and being sarcastic. My bad!

Really? Think about it though. Beginners have nothing to fear. It is the self promoted "pros" that should fear uploading material that does not cut it. You know, people like me. You know, people who dedicate their LIVES to it, then make a video and people say "that was sloppy" or "not good compas" or "where is the aire" or "that is not bulerias". Know what I mean? If you are just starting out and want feedback on the basics, where is the "fear" of your level?

Either way, I lump the "comparison" thing in with criticism. And the thing about when we all make fun of "fire fingers" type players, well, do we really want to let a whole bunch of those types to feel comfortable posting their stuff on a flamenco forum? Actually I see nothing wrong with it, since all we could do is say "hey, that is not flamenco". Which has happened before. When folks get upset by that, if they don't post anymore, that is their own problem.

I have not noticed a decline in people posting stuff. Some individuals get a harsh critique then disappear for a while. It is natural, not a fault of overall level intimidating youtube material. It has always been the same folks that post vids and mp3 etc. I noticed some new video uploads from certain members THANKS to youtube. But if the general concensus is to have a separate upload category, I guess it is not a problem. I seriously don't think it will result in a flood of beginner/intermediate level uploading, but I am not "against" it.
