Where do all the guitars go?

After watching the videoclip of all those guitars being made in a Chinese factory, I began to wonder "where do all the guitars go?".
I mean a guitar is not like a consumer durable, something you keep for a few years then chuck out when it breaks down.
Admittedly, some will get broken or damaged beyond economic repair.
But for every guitar that comes into the world, very few are disposed of.
That must lead to a massive population increase of the instrument, especially when thousands more are being made each year.
We're talking about over 100 years of guitar making here!
Where do they all go?

Well maybe one answer came in a radio programme I heard today about the increasing popularity of the instrument.
Apparently middle aged guys are getting sick of playing air guitar and having a bit more money and free time are deciding to treat themselves to the real thing...the Fender Strat being the "weapon of choice".
Someone described this trend as the new Harley Davidson. LOL!

Also schools are reporting that the main instrument children want to learn is the guitar rather than the "traditional" Recorder etc.
This applies both to boys and girls.
Also, while some older kids may have an electric at home, they continue to attend Classical lessons on Spanish guitar as they enjoy both.
Another good trend.

They said that the UK has seen a doubling of sales of guitars over the past 4 years!

This is surely great news for everyone involved in the World of Guitar..the manufacturers, the luthiers, the shops, the teachers and creators of didactic material etc.

Also a lot of these kids are eventually going to come across Flamenco in the future!

The future's good...The future's Orange...."Conde" Orange..LOL!

(This post is especially for Anders...I hope this news will bring him good cheer. )

An interesting question Ron!
I think most of the guitars sare standing in shops and hanging on walls of children rooms. I have my second guitar on my wall, too. Hmm.. I bought more than 8 guitars in my short life, but continually sell them from time to time... I think there must be a place where they finally all end finally. hmm.. Thats really a hard question, like where is the end of the universe.

I think that a lot of these chines guitars go to china, and later on they will start buying more expensive guitars and play flamenco as well. That day, we, the guitar builders, will be very rich, because what will happen is what has happened with oil prices, when such a big market starts consuming for real, prices will go up. So you guys: better buy your guitars now, because later on they will be to expensive

Am I just dreaming or has it something to do with reality?

Besides, in the western world we have more of the same things than 20 years ago. It´s normal to have more than 1 computer in a home, more than 1 guitar etc.

Ron I´m glad you like your guitar. It´s around a year old now and should have matured and be richer sounding in all aspects. I will build myself a negra very soon. I´ve never had one, and at the moment I dont even have a primera myself.

Henriks guitar will be shipped today. It´s very nice.
