RE: New La Bella 820B (in reply to gounaro

i had some crappy, unusable trebles that would buzz like crazy and took forever to tune up. Still haven't tried the basses.

RE: New La Bella 820B (in reply to gounaro

Well I had the same prob as Anthony, crappy treb's that wouldn't tune up, major intonation issues and then a D string that snapped just before the bridge. Never had that happen in the past with LaBella basses before so I'm hoping this won't be an on going problem. I also wonder if the new packaging doesn't have anything to do with the current problems; new supplier?

I really love the sound and feel of LaBella but I was very disappointed with the trebs. SBM replace the E & B but I may just stick to D'Addario trebs for the time being.

I picked up a pack recently thinking the new packaging would lead to improved quality. ONNNNKKKKK! Wrong answer. Still way out of tune on 2 trebles, about 20 cents at the 12th fret vis a vis the first. Totally intolerable. Just get some Hannabach 828 trebles and be done with it. A little higher tension, not much, great sound, always in tune up the fretboard. I'm done with LaBella. At least their "Elite" series. What a crappy name for such poor quality control. I've tried 820, 820B, 850 (yellow), 900 (same trebles as 850). All out of tune by varying amounts in the trebles.

I think La Bella has some real quality control problems. I just tried for the first time in a while the La Bella 2001 Flamenco strings. Twelfth fret on the first string - E Flat. Twelfth fret on the second string - B Flat. Unbelievable.

Everybody is disapointed with these 2001 strings...

i have always had good results using the la bella 2001 classical strings (medium tension or medium hard--the difference is the bass strings are slightly higher in tension) and never have had good results with the black trebles (2001) or the red trebles (820's). i wonder if the chemical mixture of the colored strings is such that the quality varies.

RE: New La Bella 820B (in reply to gounaro

I have just removed the 820 Red treb's I installed about a month ago. The E was flat by a good margin at the 12th, the B & G strings both flat, not as bad as the E but enough to cause a problem when another instrument is in proper tune. The E & B were both replaced by SBM right after I installed the first set because they were crap. This is the second set of trebs and the replacement set seemed ok when first installed but got worse over the past couple of weeks. Not sure why but they had to go...

I'm very disappointed in the LaBella Red's. I have restrung it back up with D'addario trebs and no issues, spot on and they stay in tune much better.

Hi Foro Flamenco Members,

This is La Bella Strings based in New York.

We recognize that we had some issues with our black and red nylon in our 2001 Series and 820B & 820 Series.

We've officially rolled out our new & improved trebles. Keep an eye out for sets that have a yellow sticker on them saying "NEW IMPROVED TREBLES".

If you had ANY issues with the nylon, please email info@labella.com to receive a free replacement.

We appreciate your business and apologize for any issues. We'd like to make things right and are eager to roll out the new trebles to everyone who had a problem with them.

Best,
Lorenza

Ok well for some time I still had the old ones with the Aaron green guitar on cover.
Finally got this new pack of 820b. Saddly not the same as before. These were not shiny smooth they had a rough
Texture and seem to be harder too. Not the same snappy string as before. There is no new improved sticker so I hope these are not the new standard. I hope they go back to the old style.

I had to put some old reds I had thankfully saved which out of two sets I had to trash one high E cuz it warbled. I hope the new improved reds are not also textured like those black trebles I removed. Waiting now for my back ordered batch.

RE: New La Bella 820B (in reply to sig

Just as a follow up to this thread, I just received a complete set of the new and improved 820's from La Bella today. I was very pleased that they actually followed through on their promise to replace my strings. Hat's off to La Bella for the good customer service work!

I'm going to change out the trebs, once again, and I'll report back with my findings after I get them broken in...

Hi Ricardo,

As explained in prior posts in this thread and others, the new and improved trebles have stickers on them. The set you're showing does not have the sticker, so there's a slight chance you may not be pleased with all the trebles. As explained in prior posts, we're willing to replace trebles you're not 100% satisfied with. Please email lorenza.cocco@labella.com to receive a treble replacement. We're already getting a positive response from your fellow Foro Flamenco members so we think you will agree!

Best,
La Bella Strings

Hi Everybody,

Labella replaced two sets of strings, they were delivered promptly - 2 days after I communicated Lorenza. As of yet I haven't changed strings - lazy - as soon as I do I'll post the results here.

ok FINALLY got the new improved 820's. The red ones. Yeah they are still shiny and snapping and I guess the improvement is the are better intonated. So I breath a sigh of relief as I had ordered a whole bunch from Strings by Mail and they were on back order till now.

So I assume the black ones will also have "new improved" sticker too. Let me know anybody if they are also shiny and snappy like the old ones cuz honestly never had a problem with the black ones in the past.

I honestly don't know what the differences are. I have played several different brands of multiple color strings black and others, but they dont' sound the same as Labella blacks or reds....so it is not just the color.

I just saw paco de lucia tonight and from row 2 I could tell his first string was WHITE.....not sure what was up but it really stuck out. Maybe the b and g were colored and the first string reflected? Or they were clear and the first really was white. Don't know but the strings sounded good anyway.

Ricardo, i have a feeling that Paco does not care much about strings.

Ya know what I've always wondered? Why are La Bella's red trebles actually purple?

I got the new and improved black trebles and they are shiny again =), they sound way better than the ones with the rough texture (raspy flamenco sound). Also they tuned super fast in comparison to the other ones.

I think i will be buying more of this strings again. Hopefully with the "Improved trebles" sticker (Lorenza replaced two set of strings very promptly )

Why? I will say they "feel" thinner than many other brands.

Because for example luthier mediums feel too thin. It's weird because the difference is very small, for example 0.70mm vs 0.65 for high E string, but the feeling is noticeably different when playing

0,05mm isn't a small difference when you're talking about strings but the difference with those strings (colored trebles) isn't just the thickness. They always sound and feel more "raw" than any other clear nylon trebles.

What's strange is that based on the string gauges they should be firmer than the 2001 medium tension flamenco strings but I find the opposite. Maybe it's the materials used but the 820's always seem to be a lighter tension kind of like luthier 20's.

I have also noticed that thicker strings doesn't mean more stiff, even in just clear nylons. Also hi and med tension strings can be the same width sometimes

Ok so I put these on my guitar with 664mm scale and the tension is pretty much perfect(slightly lower than corum on the basses) and I really like the brighter sound of the trebles compared to savarez new cristal. I think these will be my favourite strings for my blanca. my negra has a looser top so I'll just keep the setup with corums on that one. Really good strings, I hope the basses will last like corum basses.
