(Iranian) Setar 

Lately came across this Setar instrument in a shop owned by an Iranian guy around my corner. I played a bit on it and I love the sound of it!

Anyone here knowing some more about this instrument and the music played with it? Some info will be much appreciated

Hi,

To start with, the maestro Lotfi whoes video you've attached passed away just a few months ago:( . He was great.

Now about Setar, Se=three and tar=string. You might say, well it has 4 strings! Originally it had 3 strings but a chap called Moshtagh Ali Shah ( a sufi) added a bass string which is known after him as Moshtagh.
Like a lot of other Iranian instruments you have 1/4 steps on it. I can't remember the standard tuning now but it is tuned differently based on the Dastghah (similar to Palo in Flamenco).
From newer generation of players who have combined rythms and melodies I recommend listening to Masoud Shoari.
