Juan Miguel Gonzalez

Enyone know about this maker or better still, does anyone own or play one of his guitars?

Hello Jim,

I own a guitar by Juan Miguel. They are great instruments. I think I'm putting in another order for a cedar/cypress this year. Here is his website if you would like more information. His guitars are becoming quite popular in Spain. I was with him this summer in Cordoba and I hung out with Manolo Franco who had just bought a cedar/indian rosewood. Manolo and Tomatito both own 3 of JMG's guitars.

Eliott Fisk also had a guitar built for him too.

If you really what more information I think you're going to have to call. I don't think he's very current with the internet thing.

Thanks Errol,

I didn't see your earlier thread when I posted my own.

He seems to have an unique black/pearl? rosette design on most of his guitars. Do you know if this signifies anything, like his top 1a guitars or something?

Hey Jim,

The rosette is actually a silver (real silver) inlayed into a rosewood. There has been talk about the silver rosette means that the guitar is a 1ª but that is completely untrue. He only makes primeras, whether they are classical or flamenco. I have a spuce/ cypress with a more traditional rosette. He asked me if I wanted the silver one but I told him no. I'm kind of old school.

We've actually become good friends and I call him from time to time to chit chat. He only produces about 18 instruments a year, 20 at the most.

The picture you posted is actually from a TV interview they did for Almerian TV station promotiing Tomatito's new album "Aguadulce". The guitar Tomatito is holding was actually built for Isidro Muñoz (brother of Manolo Sanlúcar) but when Juan Miguel brought it over to Tomatito´s house, Tomatito said, "This one is mine!". He went to the bank, got the money and bought it. Juan Miguel had to build Isidro a new guitar.

Yes, it is the same luthier. Gerundino actually learned his first steps in guitar building from Juan Miguel's father, Juan Miguel Gonzalez Abad.
