The 'power duo' is quite common in rock/'alternative' music. Here are some of the ones I like.

Hella

Zombi

Other duos I like include Tweak Bird, Big Business (who now have a guitarist), Earth (for the few albums), Sunn O))) (who have other musicians on record and live from time to time).
