I cannot do a flicked rasgueado to s...

As the title says, I cann't do a 'flicked' rasgueado- That said, my free-finger rasgueado is actually quite percussive itself, I really like the machine-gun like sound I can get out of it for 4-5 repetitions which is really all I need. Usually they say a flicked one is more intense and better for some applications but I find I can adjust my attack pretty well to get a soft 'fluffy' one or a hard, percussive one without the thumb. Using the thumb as a resistance ramp just feels really awkward for me. Is this a big deal or is it player's preference which method they prefer?

I'm the same, I can do the percussive and the sort of rolling rasgueado without the use of the thumb. However I can get a much more percussive sound with the flick but I cant do it in a burst of 3 but not a continuous fashion.

Practice on your steering wheel as you drive the car. You'll have that rageo in two weeks.

Not even kidding, I started doing that to get my normal rasgueado up to speed. It actually works. Maybe I'll employ the same method and see if I can get a flicked one up to speed. Your responses to my questions are always my favourites, I'll buy one of your guitars someday when I'm not a poor engineering student. Hah.

I'm no pro, but i'm starting to wounder if you actually need the flicked rasgueado at all, i mean depending where your pushing your fingers out from with a regular rasgueado you can change the sounds quite a bit i.e hitting more bass strings or all treble etc.

I mean if you really want that flick sound keep practicing them but as far as i can tell its not compulsory.

Just one thing.
I love non flick rasgueados. Practice them and get better at them especially if you start to work hard on your flicked rasgueados.
Many of my favorite players do mostly non flick.
The best is to master both. And when you work on a technique, you normally get better on other tecniques as well. In the end its about body control.
Happy non-flick

Yes. And to be quite honest, flicking the index during general compas (especially opposite the golpe with ring finger) is required in almost every palo (at times). Flicking the other two is the same idea, although I admit, the ring finger need not touch the thumb at all to make the flick sound. It can come from slightly behind and off the side of the loaded-on-thumb middle finger.....likewise the pinky can load behind the ring.
