Public funeral or tribute in Spain ?

This was fierce outpouring of public grief when Camaron died. Surreal to see Paco there

Anyone know if there is such a thing planned for PdL? If its televised on Canal Sur I'd like to see it to feel a sense of connection..

I believe this article says they are sill waiting to return the body to Spain, but I can't find many details about a public funeral or the final internment

Thanks for the information Anders.

I don't know how you manage to keep three languages straight and operate a demanding artisan business, but your'e an amazing guy.

I hope I can see this tribute from here in Chicagoland USA

Its difficult and since i hardly ever speak Danish and thereby its getting worse and since English and Spanish are foreign languages that I only control to a certain degree, I end up with speaking no language well. Its a bit frustrating sometimes.

There´s a lot of info on this newspaper (In Spanish) Its from Algeciras where Paco was born

A few interesting things:
His Capilla ardiente will be in Madrid in the Gran auditorio nacional de música friday 13 - 18 hours.

There will a "Noche Tematica" in the nacional television 2 (RTVE 2) saturday 23 hours (spanish time) Its mostly the documental that I think most of us have seen. I think it should be possible to see directly on internet and maybe also later on.

Canal sur will most probaly do something as well. But they can be a bit slow and since today 28/2 is the day of Andalucía, a public hollyday, everything is tuned in on that. I hope they wake up. We have 28/2 every year, but its the first and last time that Paco dies and he was the biggest cultural ambassador that Andalucia has had.

Seeing the casket always makes it so much more real. This must be so hard for his family. Death kinda sucks.

kinda??

It depends. If you're immensely talented from years of work at your art, with a young family, and have the ability to live 20+ more years, death sucks big time.
If you're terminally ill and in chronic pain, death can be a welcome friend.
Since I view death as the end of our one and only conscious existence, I'm not a big fan of it.
For myself I plan to "Rage, rage against the dying of the light."

I absolutely disagree. Without death, there´s no life. I can tell you first hand that the death of your loved ones is a very difficult process. But its something we have to deal with because in the end we will all die.

What sucks is our society that doesnt prepare us for our own death and the death of our loved ones. Thats why we cant deal with it.

I forgot to put a link to the Algeciras newspaper in my last post. Sorry. Here it is:

I just got back from Paco's funeral in Algeciras. It was terribly sad, we all cried like little babies. It drizzled rain the whole time he was laying in state at city hall and throughout the church service, then a gust of wind shook the trees, the rain stopped and the sun came out as Paco was carried away to the cemetery to be buried next to his parents.

Lots of VIPs showed up...Farruquito y Farruco, Cañizares, Vicente Amigo, Macanita, Paco Cortés, Fosforito, Estrella Morente, Diego Carrasco, Fernando de la Morena, Capullo de Jerez, Javier Limón, Rafael Riqueni, Cristina Hoyos, La Susi, Rubem Dantas and many others. A lot of people such as José Mercé, already said their goodbyes in Madrid yesterday. John McLaughlin read a moving tribute to his old friend, and broke down at one point. Rubio de Pruna and Remedios Amaya sang to Paco in the church.

Tomatito cancelled tonight's performance at the Festival de Jerez, and was in Algeciras as well.

thanks to both of you, for being at the funeral for all of us who couldn't be there in person, and for the foro.
I have been following all the posts and reports etc. here since hearing the news of Paco's passing (via text) on Wednesday.
It is some comfort to hear from people all over the world, and especially in Spain, grieving the passing of one who touched so many of our lives so deeply.
