Seeking flamenco while visiting San ...

My husband and I will be visiting our son in San Francisco toward the end of May. Son cooks at Zuni Cafe (yum!), husband won't be bringing guitar (ouch!). But will he last two weeks without playing?

We're in the hinterlands of upstate New York and our flamenco troupe, which lasted three amazing years, is unable to gig any more due to lack of dancers and lack of support in our sports-oriented city (sad). So by the time we get to San Francisco, we'll be very hungry for some flamenco.

Where do we find shows and/or juerga and/or one fabulous guitar lesson while there? Also, is it possible to rent a flamenco guitar from anyone during that time?

Hmm... maybe Pause, next door to Zuni, still does flamenco?

Thanks for your help!

There's all kinds of flamenco in SF. Jason McGuire is teaching on Friday afternoons.
I also fixed a guitar for a venerated older flamenco in the Bay Area, Benjamin Flores he is teaching too, in North Beach, if still in town by then.

Not sure what the calendar looks like for May, but I'll ask around.

This is for info only, not an ad--Benjamin Flores will be playing at Cafe Divine, on Washington Square in San Francisco's North Beach, every fourth Sunday from 7-9. We are very happy to have him!

hola, I live near Santa Rosa and there is a group of Bay Area flamenco aficionados that get together the first Sunday of each month at someones house for a juerga and potluck. Not sure where the June juerga is yet. Also if you want dance classes there are teachers in SF, Berkeley and here in Petaluma etc. Email me, and I can give you more info later. ric_escalante@hotmail.com
