Parking lot incident

Ok, I was entering a parking lot today to buy a few things. The parking lot was pretty much full so I was going around in circles to find a spot but I had no luck. I saw another car waiting for a car to pull out but for some reason was taking a bit long to back up. I go around again in the parking lot and see another car( which is not the same car the lady is waiting for) pulling out so I take that same spot. All of a sudden, I hear a honk, and the lady goes crazy on me saying I am an a hole to put it nicely. Then she says "I wish I saw your mother so I can run her over" which by the way passed in 2004. She kept going and on and obviously I was very surprised to say the least. I kept my cool but was really disgusted with this kind of behavior. I really wish for Humanity to perish this year. I am sorry for saying this but just seeing how people are just makes me sick. I hate to say it but I think I've lost my faith in people. So close to throwing in the towel. Anyway, I had to get this off my chest.

RE: Parking lot incident (in reply to jg7238

Something similar happened to me about three years ago, except it was a guy. While he was waiting, interminably it seemed, for a car to pull out so he could take the spot, another car just ahead of me pulled out of its slot and I parked in it. The guy waiting for the other slot berated me for taking the slot I did while he was still waiting for the other one. I gathered he thought that because he had been waiting longer, that he should have whichever parking slot opened up first, even if it wasn't the one he was waiting for. While he was berating me, I just walked away and suggested that he grow up.

Yes, there are a lot of idiots out there. But there are enough good people who actually accomplish something and are reasonable that one should not lose faith over one or two bad incidents.

Cheers,

Bill

Because I took the other spot. She was waiting for another car to pull out but that car was taking a long time. I guess since the other car (which she was waiting for) was not pulling out right away, she wanted the other spot that I found. I don't think it's my fault because she was waiting for another car to pull out basically.

Believe me, for me it's not just 1 or 2 incidents. I don't want to make a big discussion out of this though. I just needed to let off some steam. That's all.

I sometimes feel that way too, but I then say that I will just continue to be a good person and try not to care about such incidents in the hopes of karma/God/fate balancing things out.

most people suck, but there are some true angels out there and we deserve to live!!!

Seriously, people have bad days, and in my experience women once every 28 days or so....it is not always fair to judge a single incident or situation without knowing all the the back story. We can't all be angels all the time. Road rage is common, and kind of funny when you think about it. We all trying to simply get somewhere without bumping into each other.

I got tapped on the bumper once and the guy behind was so scared...I was like. "dude it's just a car....get out of here, but remember to pay it forward if someone ever taps you ....". Cutting off, fender benders, parking lot bumps etc ....all a joke compared to the serious accidents happening RIGHT now with kids flying out of the window and ****.

I like to take the first parking space I can find with no other cars around it. It's usually far from the entrance to the building, but I don't like door dings. Also, I like to walk and this way is faster than looking for a space near the entrance. BTW: I figured out that making left turns (turns across opposing traffic) was more time consuming than only making right turns before UPS made this their policy.

Sorry to hear of your hurt feelings jg. Did you consider responding to her behavior with anger? You have the right to defend yourself--not just physically, but your emotional well being, too.

Your values might be different than the majority of people in this respect. Of course, quite a few people would use an accident like this to obtain a settlement for damage to their car and possible a neck injury.

Of course Ricardo, I was just a bit pissed off at her. I am normally a very calm natured person but when my mother is mentioned like that, well you can understand. Yet despite what she said to me, I remained very calm. The only thing I said was "are you out of your mind?" Ramzi, you know exactly what I mean. You are correct about karma. Thanks Pgh_flamenco for the support. Well, the only thing I said to her was like I mentioned before "are you out of your mind?" I thought about saying more things but did not want to lower myself to that level. She even said get out of the way before I run you over. What a screwed up world man.

Best to just let it go man. Otherwise you could end up driving like this on your way home

I wasn't referring to saying anything or becoming involved in an argument. You're not a small guy--you're an adult male in the prime of your life. An angry look from you should be enough to cause someone like her to fall silent. She could probably tell that you were a good-natured person from your facial expression and felt comfortable being abusive toward you based on that perception. Next time try lowering your forehead and clenching your teeth with your mouth open--like an animal that is about to charge--and see if that alone isn't enough to shut someone like her up.

Absolutely Kris. That's why I remained calm the whole time. She had to be in her 50s but looked so unhealthy and miserable. You could just tell by looking at her that she was just a sad and poor soul. Clearly not content with herself I would say. Good idea Pgh_flamenco! I remember watching an interview with Paco de Lucia some time ago and I remember him saying that one of the reasons he does not tour as much in the US is because people are too aggressive. Hmmmm, makes you wonder a bit.

we have 2012. I guess whatever will happen, we are gonna find it out this year.
just read the other posts... Ricardo is right, you cant blame a woman for being irrational (ok that wasnt exactly what he said lol). But still, with public transportation this would not have happened. Tbh i dont understand why every f'ing individual expects himself to have a personal car. It causes not only CO2 but also traffic jams. Sorry but car drivers s*ck IMO.

RE: Parking lot incident (in reply to jg7238

I take traffic conditions as indicator for mentality and culture.

Over here for instance, with the worlds highest death toll of 124 000 per year, ways in traffic indicate a culture of lacking foresight, empathy and rationality.

From Malaysia for instance I hear of quite the opposite with a traffic of remarkable consideration and anticipation.

Vice versa, I am convinced that educational measures in the media that would expound on dispropotion of reckless shove / risk of accident and apparent spare of time, on exponential collision power at rising speed, etc. and their resulting tame of traffic to a degree would yield repercussion on general mentality.

That´s at least how it appeared to me in Germany after regular educational TV spots of decades ago.
( A progress unfortunately encreasingly reversed however with the growing number of immigrated traffic participants from eastern / southern hemisphere who import their homelands traffic mentality to Germany. - Maybe, the US might have seen their share as well. For, as I remember from the seventies and eighties, traffic mentality there used to be pretty easy going and considerate.)

Where I am, and obviously in many other regions too, preparation and examination for driving license are a joke.
It has been beyound me anyway, how a country with such strict traffic rules like Germany has come to accept thelike foreign driving licenses.

As usually, it must be bound to some monetary background, only that it remains unclear to me how that would be looking like.

Certainly in a place where that video can´t be seen, just like millions of other websites.
For, oh dear, they could be showing some bare female shoulder or something.

In Egypt, so I read today, 60% of males in a survey admitted to be molesting women. You may guess on coherences.

RE: Parking lot incident (in reply to jg7238

Sorry to hear of your run in with the crazy person, jg. In particular, I am always disappointed when people feel the need to bring my ancestors into a current situation. It's probably a leftover piece of baggage from my impoverished years in the 'hood, but when people talk about my mom in that way, it's hard for me to let it go.

But...letting it go is a great skill to have. I've read quite a bit of the philosophy of Sakyong Mihpham and others in the Shambala Buddhist movement and I highly recommend the book, Ruling Your World. Check out chapter 5, "Karma", if you ever have a chance. It really changed my perspective, honestly.

Although I don't really like a lot of the ancillary stuff they talk about, the Sedona Method for releasing these kinds of emotions can be pretty helpful.

There are a lot of things in this world that we have no control over. People will say and do some ridiculous things. But the more we can stay present in the current moment...the less we obsess over possible future consequences or re-live previous pain...the more we live and act in a spirit of kindness and forgiveness...the more likely we are to be happy. It's impossible to be perfect in this regard, but can we improve today over yesterday? Sure we can.

It's no fun to get yelled at. But what was it about this incident that REALLY upset you? It probably wasn't the road rage--not too uncommon. It sounds like it was the reminder of your loss of your mother. That's tough to overcome. If you had a mother that you were close to, it's hard. But it can be rewarding to use the incident as a reminder of how lucky you were to have had your mother's guidance and love in your life. Not everybody is so lucky. She probably doesn't have the gift of music that you have either. If you can forgive her for her bad behavior and release the pain that comes from love and loss, that's a good first step, in my opinion.

There i agree with Ruphus. That probably goes hand in hand with the fact that at least some of these cultures aren´t able to establish working politics and human rights as they should be. (The exception is france and italy!! They drive like crazy..but.. eh...wait.. politics don´t work either!! lol)

She could have said 21 million other things and I would've been ok with it. Roadrage is fairly common like you said but when she mentioned my Mother in that respect it really pinched a nerve. I appreciate all the advice you have given me vuduchyld. Thanks again. There is a nice quote by Einstein that says "The tragedy of life is what dies inside a man while he lives."

Oh man, a similar thing happened to me recently. I pulled into a spot and apparently this other lady had her eye on it from like across the parking lot (I didn't see her) and after we got out she yelled at me "Didn't you see me waiting for that site?!?"
We just laughed it off and it has become a running joke between me and my girlfriend calling a parking spot a "site"..
But the crap this lady said to you was way worse... I'm sorry about that. You run into those kind of people from time to time, but I always tell myself that in order for a person to be so horrible to another person they have to be suffering psychologically. They feel horrible about themselves and the only thing that makes them feel better is lashing out at other people.

once i worked in a lunch wagon (a mobile fastfood restaurant).
and we had like 1000 customers each day.
from these 1000 , let say 10 of them were always unfriendly and bitching. ALWAYS.

i would say thats about the percentage of people who really SUCK everywhere and in every situation (also like the one mentioned here) .... . 1%

Totally agree Andy. In a way, I do feel a bit of empathy for her. Anyway, thanks everyone for reading my rants. Arash, I know there are many good people out there but I guess I caught a late reaction to her behavior. I was actually very calm when she went crazy on me but about an hour after the incident, things started to take effect on me. I'm ok now though. No big deal. I'm just amazed what people can say for something so insignificant.

That old hag sucks jg, but what do you expect from tight-ass east coasters?

I don't know if you've noticed AlVal's signature -- how others treat you is their karma, how you treat them is yours (or something to that effect). I find that it's a good mantra to keep in mind at all times. Whenever someone gets upset at you for silly things (like most road rage) you can always just smile and say 'have a nice day!'. It's definitely going to calm you down, and enrage the other person.

Getting upset causes real damage (stress etc). Try to smile through it and let the other person do all the raging. It's usually not worth getting upset over.
