I've never been, but I used to hear the name Chicago Music Exchange a lot on another guitar forum. They apparently have a big selection of new and used (I think mainly steel strings), so it would be a good idea to call first. I have no idea if they carry any flamenco guitars.

being an ex-chicago resident allow me to chip in. for classical and flamenco guitars there is: elderly music in grand rapids michigan (they have a website and a reasonable selection of nylon string guitars), a few guitar centers in chicagoland (aka, metro chicago), guitar works on main st. in evanston and various little shops that probably have nothing but maybe a cheap yamaha or two. chicago music exchange on lincoln ave. has tons of electric guitars, a lot of steel acoustic guitars and a handful (probably literally) of nylon string guitars. it is worth the trip just to see the electric guitars.

for fun check out sherry-brener on michigan ave across from the bean. do not expect to buy as sherry's prices are high and his guitars are suspect. do engage in a conversation with him--he is a hoot as he will tell you stories about drug dealing (kids spending their guitar money for drugs), gambling (parents spending guitar money playing the ponies) or a host of other bizarro subjects. he is pretty old so you may have to locate him at some senior center somewhere.

for an experience into what real guitars are all about check out r.e. brune in evanston. you will need to bring a towel or two to clean up your drool. unless you just won the lottery do not expect to buy--but drool you will.

rumbaking--evanston is a suburb of chicago. one crosses the street from chicago into evanston and brune's place is about 2 miles north of the border. guitars he has; inexpensive ones he does not have unless inexpensive means a few thousand dollars at the very bottom end.

Hi -

I happen to live here in the Chicago area, Best bet for a "cheap" guitar,
would be to go "Guitar Center" www.guitarcenter.com it's near where Ilive in Arlington Heights. If you want Yamaha/Cordoba type stuff you should be
ok there.

Elderly Instruments in Lansing is primarily steel string stuff, like Martin, but
they do have a small selection of nylon string.

Richard Brune is good, but not sure he fits the "cheap" description.

Ping me in a private message if you have any other questions.

Regards,
Jeff

Richard Brune is in Evanston, a Chicago suburb. The cheapest guitar he shows on his web inventory is $1900--maybe more than you want to spend. However, Brune is a really nice guy, and I would think he might advise you where to find something in the price range you're looking for. I think it's worth a try. His contact info is

GUYS!!! THANKS FOR ALL THE REPLIES!!! Im so happy to see that! I thought after all my odd jokes over the past 5-6 years everybody would be,..at least partially, pissed off..haha xD

Your input helps me a lot! I will check everything that is quickly reachable via internet.. I´ll see Chicago after thanks giving..well.. I remember Brune. I was once a little bit upset that he has a guitar of Ramon Montoya and doesn´t give it to Spain, to a museum where it belongs.. I think it was this dude.. ^^ Well... however!

Hey Deniz, I was and still am a little bit sad coz of this girl.. It was so crazy,.. everything. and my shortest friendship I´ve ever had in my life.. so damn sad. :( Can´t believe what has happened.
Beside of that,. its nice here. Definitely different than Germany. Colder...today first snow..WTF!?!!?! I´ll die here for sure! Well,.. I´m honest..I really enjoy being here and hope to meet a lot more people than I already met till now! (And girls who are nicer to me! haha)

well i typed in the wrong city for elderly music--it is in lansing. oops, sorry for that.

doitsujin--if you go to chicago you definitely want to check out "the bean" which is technically not called that as the sculptor calls it cloud gate--it is a 66 foot long, 33 foot high stainless steel kidney bean--hence the name, the bean. it is in millennium park in the central to south part of the loop. across the street is sherry-brener's store. stories about sherry can be found probably here at the foro and definitely at acguitar. brune's place is easy to get to from the bean--just take l.s.d. (that is lake shore drive) and then sheridan up through evanston to brune's place. have fun.
