Jimi Hendrix

Jimi Hendrix left us 40 years ago. His version of Hey Joe is the very reason I picked up the guitar. It's changed my life drastically for the better and I'm extremely thankful to Jimi for the countless hours I put in listening to and trying to imitate his music and his style.
Since then I've converted to flamenco, but I'll always be grateful to Jimi for the music he created.

Yeah...the first time I heard "Hey Joe" I was instantly grabbed by that "sweet and sour melodic edge" his guitar style introduced to the "usual" electric Blues playing.

And the "honest" delivery of his singing voice.

My schoolfriend with his girfriend met him backstage at a concert and said he was utterly charming, a real gentleman, getting up off his seat and saying "no, no lady...you sit here..".
Contrary to the wild image he had, my pal said he was sharp, lucid, polite and funny.

Definitely a one-off.

cheers,

Ron

I listen to him a lot - he is timeless. My favourite is "Crosstown Traffic" and the line "Excuse me while I kiss the sky" in "Purple Haze".
