El Cigala with Diego del Morao thoughts?

Hi, all. There is a rare opportunity for North Americans to see Diego del Morao accompanying El Cigala at Montreal JazzFest June 29th/30th:

Since I'm in Toronto (6 hour drive away), I'm considering going. It's almost a no-brainer, the one turnoff being that Cigala might be doing still his bolero, copla, tango **** ...so I'm wondering, from anyone who's seen this act before... how much does flamenco and Morao feature? It would seem from limited YouTube evidence that he plays at least one bulerias and some flamenco things with just Cigala, the remainder being held to minimal accompaniment and the odd solo space over tango-rumba stuff. Nonetheless, to see him in the flesh and perhaps get to an after-party could prove worthy of a road trip. So has anyone seen this latest incarnation of Cigala's show? The organizers sent me a list of the personnel they have as Jamie Calabuch (piano), Yelsy Heredia (double bass), Sabu Saurez (percussion) and of course Morao.

Ive seen the show. The first 4 pieces sounded exactly the same (zzZzzZZ). Further one buleria solo, one Tangos, and as encore a short buleria. So only 2 of 8 or more pieces worth going. If it would have been 50% flamenco ok, but this way, its not good coz their flamenco stuff does not even blend well with the quite cheesy bolero stuff anyway. God knows why they are doing boleros, or why they mix flamenco pieces in a program where it doesnt fit. Its like smooth jazz and heavy metal.

Morao is in the background anyway. Piano is more dominant. In the boleros Morao is just a background musician, a chord supplier, whom you cant even hear properly because the piano is just a more dominant instrument.

Argh... thanks Deniz. Exactly as I expected based on video documents. I agree with everything you say. But I'll probably still go because I might never get another chance and I think just seeing Diego Squared will make me smile widely.

It wont be that bad because you know what to expect now. I didnt know 100%, the description just said "cuban influenced music", i thought "hm lets try, maybe its good music and on top of that i get to see Diego". But it turned out nasty. Just be sure to take some Oropax with you, dont know whats in english, these "things" you put in your ear to prevent unwanted sonic of coming in.
