Hi,

in the UK £ 200 - 400 per month for shared accommodation. about £ 25 per week food if you use a supermarket. Regular travel can be expensive as well.

If you have any interest in organic farming WOOFing is a really cheap way to get about (i did it for about 10 months) - but you are working on the farms so your interest has to be genuine.

same topic, there's a good chance i'll be moving to the Bournemouth area some time soon, if i want a really small place to live where i don't disturb anyone with my loud flamenco playing, what would that cost approximately?

Hi

try this:
http://www1.flatmateclick.co.uk/flatmates/flatmate-needed/South_West-Bournemouth-BH10400.htm

get in contact with some people ask them how they are with music. What experience have you had with your practice and other people living together? I find i get on okay not playing after 10 pm and letting other people know that i will negotiate or be quiet if they need space - most people are fine about it however.

thanks a lot for the link...actually i'll be training at NATS to become air traffic controller (if i can get in first :)) and they say they have a list of recommended accomodation but i have no idea what to expect nor do i know if the prices listed are weekly or monthly? i have absolutely no experience living with anyone else but family and loved ones...they tolerate my playing but will a stranger? who knows...that's why i'd be more content with a really small house, i'd even be willing to pay more for it as i'll probably be able to afford it...i mean the question is, will i? :)

> £ 300 will be pcm (per calender month)
£ 100 or less definitely will be per week for shared accommodation.
Your own place will be much more expensive perhaps > £ 1000 pcm

I would say, you'll probably be fine in shared accommodation, just take it easy when you first move in and be prepared to compromise if necessary. People may well enjoy hearing you.

minordjango,

Another thing that is very draining on resources is short-haul public transport.

In the old days, this was subsidised by the local area council for pennies, but now it is a private enterprise affair, run through council licensing and costs a lot!

Expect to pay the minimum of about £1 for the shortest bus ride, more like £2 for a couple of miles in the city.

(Advance-booked long-distance transport is still fairly good cost-wise)

So a kinda average commuting day could easily cost you £10, which is £200 a month, based on 20 working days.

Buying even a banger of a car will also cost you plenty on insurance, road tax and fuel and parking charges...so forget it.

Be prepared to cycle a lot...(in all kinds of weather)!

cheers,

Ron

Speaking of living expenses, on the flip side, the U.S. is not "on the cheap"
thats for sure.

New York being the absolute worst.

I live in Annapolis Maryland with my fiance, in a 3 bedroom house (about 1000 square feet), which we rent.
Our monthly expenses, which include rent, phone, cable, internet, food, insurance, electricity, water, etc.... total well over $4,000.00 usd per month.
Some months, closer to $5,000.00.

Its completely rediculous. We plan to move to Nashville Tennessee next year.
It'll be about half that, or less down there.

LOL... 'couldn't agree more. One should not move to NYC anxiously preoccupied with reducing expenses but driven by a keen ambition to increase income.

Nashville, Tennessee: now that is one plave where a talented musician such as you Todd may make a difference. That had always been my plan B (and perhaps my childhood dream... writing country music tunes. If you do, i am sure you and your better half will be successful at what you love most, music.

God's speed.

living with strangers and playing flamenco guitar can be difficult , unless they are like minded (Art) type folk ! hope u can find a flatemate.

woofing ?? seems interesting , mind you 10 months would be a long hall, but for sure organic farmer is very interesting, ill check that out.

Todd 4000-5000 USD a month , hells bells !!! that’s like a second hand devoee evrery months that’s incredible ! I was hoping you’d upload something ,but you must make serious cash instead !

I have had a 2 bedroom place (Well its like a squat its 60$usd a month with internet and bills, as im in Asia. The locals have not seen a foreign person before, so I guess they now think all foreigners play flamenco guitar and have long hair !! the great things is their noisy which means I can be also play guitar anytime

As Ive been in Asia a while , rons tip is crucial meaning I need to see some performances attence some free classes if any (Anyone know of these things in England like free classes for Spanish , or something keep the brain going ?

Todd, you should take a look at Indiana. It's a flat, featureless, lifeless, culture-less corn field, whose dirt-cheap cost of living ties directly into the demand side of economics.

That is, no one wants to live here, not even most residents.

Just $700 a month will get you a four bedroom house! Of course you'll be bored to the brink of raging insanity and depression in your four bedroom house, but at least you won't pay much for the mental distress.
