New camera, new Mac and Final Cut...

Any of you who bought "El Guitarrero" (or not), my next documentary will be shot in HD and hopefully available via the internet as well as on standard DVD and Blu Ray.

I did a test shoot and edit today of the park across the road to give some idea of the quality. You can go to full-screen in the bottom right of the player.

And yes, I have a Mac now

So you've finally seen the light

What does your employer say to that?

Very good quality Simon.

The "stills" look like jpgs.

Problem with the soundtrack on my computer anyway...the sound seems to clip and modulate with the tabla playing.

Good names on the 2nd video.

Was keeping an eye out for something in memory of Sir Henry Tonsil though...

cheers,

Ron

I agree with Ron that it's very good quality, and playback was sort of stop-and-go for me, as well. I don't understand a thing about it, but I thought it had something to do with the connection.

Good music in both videos. Although the overall experience was a bit like looking at a stranger's photo album, there was a lot of dark tension in that first video. At the "mallard's eye" sequence, it seemed like something terrible was going to happen!

Yeah..I agree Norman....maybe something like a Suicide Duck Bomber to spoil the tranquility.

I think a bit of Vivaldi would have been more appropriate, but probably because I have been preconditioned by the cliched forerunners.

Just shows you how incidental music heavily influences your perspective of the video!

cheers,

Ron

The quality is very nice!

Just out of curiosity, a non-expert question, what kind of camera are you using?

Over here its running smoothly.. Very crisp resolution, o problems with sounds... I would be happy with such an equipment..

SONY HVR-Z1

It's been around a while but it is still a broadcast-quality workhorse and the BBC swear by them (and Final Cut).

Yes, playback was jerky on my little net book while on holidays, but that is probably because of the limited processing power.

What do you think of the new DSLR that are now able to shoot in HD video. Did you consider those cameras? I think a lot of change will be coming down the pipe, costs to continue to decrease, liberating people who normally wouldn't be able to afford this to realize their dreams.

It will be interesting to see what the future holds... and what you come up with also.

My dream is to film a version of David Lindsey's A Voyage to Arcturus... in a real artistic fashion. One day... to dream is enough for now.

I too am interested in these HD DSLRs - a lot of filmmakers are because of their 35mm depth-of-field and interchangeable lenses but their on-board audio processing is limited as is the ability to hold them steady without extra support. Their small size limits mounting mics etc. So when you add it up it starts to get expensive.
