Buying a guitar 
Hey,
I have been learning playing guitar for the last 6 months.
Now I'm considering to buy a guitar and make it my personal guitar.
My teacher is teaching me the classical guitar and flamenco techniques.
Do you advice me to buy a classic guitar of flamenco guitar?
I heard the negra flamenca guitar combines the both, the classical and the flamenco, is it true?
Do you prefer any maker?
What about Al-Hambra guitars? are they worth buying?
I'm consider to spend about 500-700 US dollars.

Wow, this thread(or one very similar) comes up several times a year. I wonder if we could "sticky" it or another to the top of the forum?

The Yamaha CG-171SF cost me less than 400.00 US and is as good as most in the price range you mention. THere are several other users here who recommend it. There are several other options like the Al Hambra you mention. Just ensure you get a Flamenco model with a golpe plate.

Hi Hu,
in this price-range it makes no difference between negra blanca or a broom with a bootlace. Ask your teacher. I think he will have experience with low cost guitars for his students. I think that is the best you could do.
I played 15 years a 100euro guitar when I began.. than switched to a cuenca for 1000euro. After a week I sold it and bought a Jose Luis Marin for 1400euro... Than an andrs domingues for 1000euro... than a conde estudio.. I traded it for the dominguez and payed 1000euro. It was fine. Thn a paco de lucia negra.. the most disappointing guitar I owned.. and finally a M.Sanchis. Maybe I orgot some in between.. If you stick to guitar... there will be much change..I guess...

I forgot to mention the most important rule when buying a guitar.


--> You have to test it personally before you buy. The best is, if you test it and compare it directly to your actual guitar and other guitars.

So my rule is: No try, no buy. ;.)

It also means that buying a guitar is a very personal thing. I cant help you with that. I would not trust any internet-page without visiting the seller personally and test th guitar. A good example are the 1000 myspace sites and official musician homepages. Many of them are made very professionally and let you think the musician must be awesome. But when you check out the samples... its the opposite.

Even at low cost level, I would buy a guitar in a shop I could visit.

If you don't have the possibility to try out guitars before buying, order the yamaha for 350-400. You can always sell it again for a little less than what you paid (if you should not be happy with it).

The Yamaha CG171SF works well as both a student flamenco guitar and a classical guitar. Best of both worlds.

You can bargain it down to $299 at Guitar Center. Or just wait for the 4th of July sales if you're reluctant to bargain.

The yamaha - maybe if you can one of the Sanchis say FO3, all uses rave about them, and in the future ut maybe a great 2ns guitar if u want to upgrade.

at the present i order a FL2 ramirez 2nd hand on ebay 4 year ago its been fine for like 500 USD, broken now but it has been good.

play them first , and if also take a friend who can helop u decide

Since JOSÉ RAMÍREZ is mentioned,
Do they still in business? I mean can I buy a new guitar made by JOSÉ RAMÍREZ or their guitars are historical?
Their website doesn't seem to be very helpful.
