Mario Maya R.I.P.

The sudden death of Mario Maya came as a surprise to everyone. As Paco Peña says in his memoriam in this quarter's edition of the London Pena newsletter:

"I do see in Mario’s dance truth, hard discipline, dignity and the unending search for new ways to find expression. Moreover, Mario was an accomplished composer and musician, having much to do with the music to which he danced, therefore (being myself a musician), I found his dance fully connected to the sensitivity of the music; and his treatment of the compás constantly revealing and fresh."

Mario died last year. It was not that sudden. He had cancer and was 70 years old even though he looked so much younger. There is a homenaje to him at this year's festival de Jerez.
