Name for style?

i just noticed someone else here mentioned that they are trying to write music that is influenced by flamenco, yet isn't actually "Flamenco".........

After playing actual flamenco my entire life so far...........i have also come to the point of wanting to write music that is influenced by flamenco...........yet not actual flamenco.

My first love will ALWAYS be flamenco and gypsy music.......but i just want to experiment with playing music without using the traditional beats and chord changes. In other words NOT Flamenco.

Although some of my songs are still VERY MUCH flamenco sounding and HEAVILY influenced by flamenco................
Most of my original songs are for "Solo" guitar............but some are for 2 guitars.

SO............my point of this thread is to have some input as to what to call it.

Any ideas for names??????..........ALL are welcome!!!

Thanks!!!!!

solomenco

i dont know.."solo guitar" ?

whenever flamenco guitarists do a solo thats not flamenco on a album the call it "Fantasy"

they either call it fantasy or just have the actual title of the song without any description

"solomenco"........that's a good one......

Thanks Florian!

i have used just the name of a song before and i have seen "Fantasy" used before........

But what about an entire CD..........or lets say people liked what i was doing and i wanted to make a go at just originals.......

What would i tell people i play.....................?? Other than "Solo Guitar"..........which could mean i play Jazz or Folk.........you know something that would give them the idea of what it sounds like with out them having to hear it........??

i do like the way "World Guitar" sounds.

as i also dabble with Oud and some of my songs do show that as well........some even have a Japanese sound...yet all definitely sound flamencoesque.........

I like the sound of "Not Actual Flamenco".

It's honest, but suggests some sort of flamenco connection, and you'll catch all the people that enter the f-word in their search.

world fusion? free form compositions for flamenco guitar? or just compositions for flamenco guitar? i know people use 'fantasy'.. but it sounds a bit like kitsch to me. i'm not very happy about the world label either. i would probably just avoid a label and have a description of the work on the backside instead.

Huh? Is that a species of fish?

Can't go wrong with spangles, pink flamingos and the caressing tones and fiery passion of Benises fantasies.

ALL Great ideas so far, and some pretty funny .............Thanks for the input everyone!!

i'm going to have to stay clear of using "Nice" Happy" or "Light Hearted" type of names simply for the fact that my originals still retain all the "Depth" Sorrow and "Torment" that Cante Jondo" has..............that parts just in my blood!!...........

i'm not looking to make my songs "Commercial" like the so called "New Flamenco" artists that have been coming out in droves<some of who i actually like)...............

As a good friend of mine who is a classical guitarist once told me after hearing me play some of my "Non-Flamenco" tunes................,"Man, it has this tragic sound to it that really makes your heart hurt."............LOLLOL!!!......................AND that's the part i say is the "Flamenco" influence in my music.............................PAIN, Passion, Fire...............just like the pain my Mothers family in the past must have felt because they are gypsies...........

HEY.....................!!!..............How about the name ......"FlamenkoNo"..............LOLLOL..................

Again Thanks for all the input everyone!!!!!!!!

Keep'em coming!!

how about just using your name.

its genuine, because its you.

its not flamenco, its not bluegrass, its not metal. its you.

thus, your name is the only accurate descriptor.

No prob..

That would just be Jondo Spanglestrumming.

Along with Libre Spanglestrumming and Alegre Spanglestrumming, this musical form is akin to caffeine-free coffee or alcohol-free beer or wine in that it is low in Flamenco content (compás, form and tradition), while still maintaining the same full flavour and aroma of the guitar.

It is also much healthier to learn, as it's plain 4/4 and 3/4 rhythms prevent the stress and frustration involved in trying to assimilate traditional compás and form, while still being able to enjoy rasgueado and picado techniques etc.

It also has the advantage of no pre-defined Flamenco tone quality, so can be played on Flamenco Guitar, Classical Guitar, Steel-String Acoustic Guitar or Electric Guitar, and be combined freely with numerous other instruments.

The biggest advantage though, is that it can be played without all those annoying Flamenco aficionados, with sticks up their butts keeping reminding you that "it's not Flamenco".

You just say..." Eh??...Who said anything about Flamenco, pal?....This is a Spanglestrumming concert... you IDIOT!"

cheers,

Ron

Ron.............that's gotta to be one of the funniest posts i've read in a LONG time.....!!!!!!!

the 12 beat compas is so ingrained into my head..........even when i write a Non-Flamenco tune..............it's still based in it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ............LOL..............just not the same way.........

Tradition.......Form............yeah.............i know what that's ALL about..........<wink wink)..........

in the words of Camaron de la Isla when criticized about some of his music not being flamenco......he said.......,"I am a Gypsy, I am flamenco. Everything I do is because of these things."..................<OR something to that effect........lol

Thanks man!
