Intermediate study material

Hey folks,
I may have asked a similar question before but I was wondering if anyone can suggest some tabs/music etc for me. I'm not really sure exactly what I'm looking for.
I have 2 juan martin books but they are either too easy or musically a bit dull. I also have paco penas "toques Flamencos" which is cool but have done most of the pieces.

after that I get a jump to Paco de lucia/gerardo/vicente tabs which while I love them and can play moments of them. they are too difficult for me! especially as my tendonitis plays up when I try hard stuff!!

I have the Moraito Encuentro dvd which has a few pieces I can get my teeth into.

I'm looking for some material in between too easy and too hard.

Any suggestions?

Did you try Manuel Granados? It has all levels from "that could play my grandmother" to "well it will take me some (edit: fuc.king) time to learn that". AND it is musically the most interesting method as far as i could see (apart of course compositions from full musicicans like Encuentro stuff). Althought he might be musician too. I just dont know if he has an album out.

I'm, doing the self-study thing, here's what I've been using:

For basics, I am using the Graf-Martinez books/dvd which I think are good. I
also practice stuff from Claude Worm's, and Manuel Granados.

For technique, I have been working my way through the book that comes with
Gerardo Nunez DVD. I just finished the Pulgar section and it's pretty amazing
how much it has helped me play complicated stuff. I can't claim to be able
to play his stuff well, however it has really helped me overall. Once you grind
through learning one of his Etude's the Graf-Martinez stuff feels simple.

Do you also have the Chicuelo Encuentro?
It is not easy but very nice (more modern than Moraito though) and at lower speeds playable.

How many encuentro's did you sell already?

But as you said it isn't that easy so maybe not the best beginner stuf. But SOOOO fun to play...

Yes i am!

For me he has everything. Perfect technique, super nice falsetas and he is not only a great soloist but also a great accompanist.

well, Manzmann asked for intermediate stuff and not beginner and you could call chicuelos stuff intermediate (when you play it very slowly

).

I think the Granados series is a good intermediate source - a little harder than the J. Martin stuff. It's mostly broken down into compas and falsetas with a few not so complete concert pieces. Also, the Oscar Herrero material is pretty good, but I think I prefer the Granados books.

Once again I have the same response. Flamenco guitar "pieces" are made of falsetas. Not all falsetas need be in our grasp or even to our taste. But you said yourself

That is good enough. To me there is no such thing as "indermediate stuff". Moraito is "advanced" as anything else IMO. There are things of PDL EASIER than things of Morao, but it really depends on technically what it is that makes it hard or easy. Simply choose falstas and see what you can do with them. Lean the technique a specific falseta teaches. If you can't get it, trash it or save it for later. Flamenco guitar is not about completing a "piece" at level X. You simply start and keep growing, one falseta at a time...forever.

Not sure of the kind of stuff you want to play, but I have an Enrique de Melchor book full of stuff that is WAY too hard for me. It's in manuscript with melody and chords marked. I'll bring it along to the next guitar course and if it interests you you're welcome to hang on to it for a while.

hey guys,
Thanks for all your input. I actually have a couple of the granados books and forgot to say. I had a feeling a few peolpe would recommend them.

I will try to get the chicuelo stuff.

And thanks ricardo for reminding me of this....

I have heard you say this before and this is kind of what I do anyway, but I often get asked to play something from start to finish by friends/family etc and it would be nice to be able to pull something out of the bag that has a clear beginning middle and end. if I just piece stuff together from falsetas I know I guess I worry it won't be constructed properly.

Manzmann.

I find that Paco Serranos Encuentro video is nice and with many moments that you should be able to play. Besides, I find videos a lot more inspiring than books or tabs.
