Now I have to wonder....how did he come up with that? Was he just sitting around playing his guitar and think..."hey! I think I'll play the guitar and play slide at the same time with my mouth by holding a spoon in it?"

Really I have no idea....
I think he played some kind of slide guitar and then he had nobody to do the rythm section and ....that's it

It amazes me what people can do with an idea! I came up with a similar idea but I used a knife instead of a spoon. For some reason though, my strings wouldn't last that long and would even break while I was playing

I think every major discovery stated with an idea, a need for something.
