hi guys,

i would like to know the correct way to lower the action of a guitar,

lets say classical yamaha c40, very basic guitar,

i tried to file down the bone, but the guitar was buzzing like hell,

i also have Almansa 401 Classical Guitar Mahogany Back & sides, the sound is amazing, but the action is high,

the problem is that the bone is inside the bridge, and i dont know how to lower that action,

need your help expert people,

Hi Haithamflamenco,

I was in your situation for years. I had an amazing classical guitar, and I have always used it to play flamenco. It had always bothered me however that I could never get the sound and always thought that all I had to do was lower the action to the point that the guitar will eventually buzz like a flamenco... boy was I mistaken...
Nothing replaces a real flamenco. I now own 3, two negras and a blanca, and believe me there's a world of difference. The flamenco sound is not just a classical guitar tone with a lot of buzzing, it's something of its own. The low action is only part of the magic, just one of the many ingredients that make a flamenco guitar so special.
My advice is IF you are really interrested in flamenco, do not waste your money in trying to set up your classicals in a 'flamenco way', just sell them and get a good flamenco (good beginner flamenco guitars are not that expensive anyways, try Alhambra, amazing value for money).
Hope this helps.

mr avimuno is right but if you REALLY cant afford a flamenco then you can slide out the saddle from the bridge with the string tension off, and then double side a 1/4 piece of 180 grit sandpaper to a flat block and then with the saddle in a vice or freehand holding the saddle still and moving the block legthways you can lower the UNDERSIDE of the bone. not the top. if you have allready filed the top then maybe now you have some problems with the angles etc. its a really specialist job getting the top of a saddle right.

but as said, get a flamenco! you in the states or elsewhere?
