Flamenco ukulele?

Have any of you ever messed around with flamenco technique on a ukulele? I've been messing around with it lately and it's actually been a positive impact on my playing. It necessitates significantly lightening up on some of my rasgueos as the comfortable hand position puts my hand over the end of the fretboard and means if I'm playing too hard my nails actually hit the frets. With the limited range of four strings, I've come up with some really cool ideas that will translate back to the guitar. I started playing with buleria compas and it sounded better than my guitar version because I just had less to think about and had simplified my technique, concentrating mainly on making it sound good solely with index strokes and golpe.

It is just a little guitar, after all.....

Hi James,

what chord fingerings are you using for bulerias? I found it always souned crappy when I tried that, so I didn't insist.

I was using the two finger A7 shape then simply sliding it up a fret for the Bb chord. I also was playing the typical turnaround of Dm, C, (can't remember the name of that third chord) back to the core chords above. Of course, missing the bass notes from the two extra strings on a guitar makes it sound different, but not bad.

Note: I'm not resting my thumb on the low string of the uke. I'm resting it on the side of the fretboard so I can use all strings.

Once I work out some original falsetas, I'll make a video and share.

Friend of mine has a Uke at his house and I always pick it up and play it when I’m there. Rasgueado and such sound surprisingly good

I haven't picked up a guitar in over a week. I love being able to walk around the house and practice rasgueos. Also, I'm coming up with all sorts of new percussive techniques and rhythm ideas that can be incorporated into flamenco. It's been surprisingly liberating.

Well, I started out with intentions of making a crossover buleria but another idea won the day. It’s not flamenco but I used some of my flamenco techniques. I’m addicted to tremolo......
