Matte French Polish Finish?

I have a customer who wants a matte finish. Any experience making a matte finish with French polish? (Intentionally.)

Hi Mario,

Compound it out with course polish compound. It takes fine compound to get a high polish. Or just use 1200 wet/dry sand paper to flatten the finish. The finish wants to go dull is you don't use too much elbow grease.

I French polished as usual and at the end I went with 0000 steel wool. No problems of sort.
A friend luthier went instead for the old traditional method with a final stage with a wax and turpentine spread with 0000 steel wool but this way it's more difficult to go back to a shining surface if the customer changes his mind.

Thanks Tom and Echi! I had considered such methods, but not having any experience I'm glad to know they worked for you. Great.
