The force awakens thread

Is anyone else unable to sleep until December 18th?
I am really looking forward to JJ Abrams interpretation of the new episodes and hoping along with millions of others that they will redeem the disapointment of Episodes 1 to 3 (although 3 wasnt so bad)

*raises hand* They've already gone the correct direction bringing back original characters and bringing back the "dark" feel of the originals vs. the cheesy cartoon characters of 1-3.

RE: The force awakens thread (in reply to Pimientito

Looks cool...comes out on my son's birthday...he is older than I was when I saw episode 4, but I have a 6 year old that grew up with the other movies. Unfortunately I don't think anything could ever top the feeling my friends and I had when we anticipated and finally saw Empire Strikes Back!!! By far the best of the entire series IMO.

Anyway, despite the rather sucky terminator movie, I am still high from the Mad Max fury road earlier this year which was great and I now have on blueray...so next month I will start my kids on the Starwars saga review. They also love the clone wars animated stuff.

The thing is that Star Wars is such a big part of many peoples childhood and such a revolutionary piece of cinema genre for its time that it was always going to be difficult to follow. I never saw the original Star wars at the cinema (and we didnt even have video players until I was 14) but I remember seeing The return of the Jedi in the cinema age 11. I will never forget that experience.
The insensitivity of the production of episodes 1-3 genuinely upset many people. I thinbk JJ Abrams comes from a generation that reveres the genre and will have the ability to follow the story from episode 6 and transform it into legend.

PS - the new Terminator was worse than Golfing trousers

Havn´t read the fan posts, as thelike -pardon me- infantile production left me on the level of musicals when I was invited to watching its first release in a cinema in the US.

Only entered the thread today after reading what Disney feels the fan hype entitle them to requests as share from cinema´s ticket prices, which is an incredible 53%.

If attracted to thelike entertainment, such a profane background of outrageous bagging behind the making would be disenchanting to me while watching what´s supposed to come along as chummy excursion into children´s room.

RE: The force awakens thread (in reply to Ricardo

Just to show how totally out of it I am, I have only seen the original Star Wars, which came out in 1977. Back in the day there were large theaters with huge screens and booming, blasting sound systems, rather than 12 small theaters with window shades for screens.

(But when we saw Spectre in a fairly small theater last month the sound was impressive, and sitting halfway back we were still close to the screen.)

When we saw Star Wars my kids were 7 and 8 years old. During one of the battle scenes there was a hellacious thunderstorm going on outdoors, with sharp cracking thunder loud enough to partly drown out the movie. We had a blast. One of my favorite movies.

My movie going is like my tourism. I took my wife to France on a business trip followed by a week of vacation. On the first business day as I dressed for work she asked,"How do I get to the Eiffel Tower?"

"I don't know, I've never been there."

"How many times have you been to Paris?"

"Hmm, maybe a couple of dozen times, maybe more."

"And you have never been to the Eiffel Tower?"

"No, sorry. I can tell you how to get to the Jardin de Luxembourg."

"Why do you know that?"

"Sometimes when the weather is nice I walk through there on the way from the Metro back to the hotel."

In my defense I will say that I had been to the Louvre, the Musee D'Orsay, the Renoir retrospective at the Grand Palais, and my colleagues and I had eaten at some pretty good restaurants.

And I had made a half dozen trips to La Guitarreria almost next to the Gare Saint Lazare, and gotten a little acquainted with the formidable Spanish proprietress and her brother, whom she had rescued from a life of flamenco, alcohol and general dissipation. He said he used to play with Niño Ricardo's son.

Once he showed me a beautiful blanca from Paulino Bernabe. He said it was his own guitar, which he was selling. I played a little, then tried to hand it to him saying, "Let me hear you play it."

He shrank back so as not to touch the guitar and said, "Oh no, I'm sorry, it would be like taking the first sip of manzanilla."

Me too, same thing! Somewhere around Orange County, and in a large cinema as you desribed it.

Seems like global interests pushing a feminist agenda using the nostalgia of the original trilogy to brainwash millions and make that moolah.

RE: The force awakens thread (in reply to Pimientito

Well, the final trilogy is over, don’t want to spoil it for those that haven’t seen the last one that just came out. I really enjoyed the force awakens, the way the guy who made it brought in the nostalgic surprises was very well done. There were about 4 scenes that were very good and set up the entire series for good things to come. But after all we can seriously criticize the story as a whole now that it is over. Before I do that, I admit taking my kids to see this entire series over the years has been fun, though it never stuck with my kids generation the way the first trilogy did with my generation. The final two films had great visuals and of course great entertainment value. Anybody want to discuss the story line? I’ll wait for any fans to see it first.

I hate to be "that guy" but I tried to watch The Force Awakens and just never could get into it. Never saw TLJ and don't plan on seeing Skywalker either. The originals stick with you too much. I really almost think these are generational movies. Kids nowdays will enjoy the currents, the slightly older might have enjoyed 1-3 (though they were terrible) but when you start with 4-6 it's a big hurdle to overcome.

Saw the last two and really can't be bothered. The characters are largely bland and generic. Been watching The Mandalorian on telly which isn't bad at all, so there is hope for the franchise.
