Classes for Guitar and Accompaniment...

Hello, comrades:

I plan to go to Spain (maybe in a couple of weeks; maybe later) to take guitar classes, especially ones to accompany el baile. I am not a beginner though I have lots of gaps in my skill-set (theory, accompaniment, compás, palos, and general inability to sound flamenco enough); I do speak enough Spanish, though, and plan to stay there for a week or two (maybe more). Some people have recommended Carmen de las Cuevas on this forum. I emailed José Luís Rodríguez to see if he still gives classes under Toma Flamenco, but I'm not sure if this is still happening. I don't have a preferred city to visit and I have visited Madrid, Andalucía, Valencia and Barcelona once before, so I kinda know my way around the relevant parts of the country.

Any experiences that you can share regarding the landscape of flamenco guitar instruction (general and dance accompaniment) in Spain? Or do you recommend alternatives (e.g., online instruction, though not sure how that helps with accompanying el baile)?

Thanks, Ramzi and Ed!

@Ramzi: I ain't Qatari, brother... I just work in the country; the hint is in my name
@Ed: the school looks professional; great pointer!

I'm surprised that no one said anything good or bad about Carmen de las Cuevas! They seem to emphasize group classes as opposed to the private ones of TallerFlamenco. Not sure if Taller offers dance accompaniment, so I'll have to check. I might end up doing one week in both and reporting back here, so stay tuned.

Agree with Ed. Taller Flamenco provides excellent private lessons for guitar accompaniment for dance. If you go there, I’d recommend to request Antonio Gamez and Lourdes for your guitar teacher and dancer. I went to Seviila four separate times and have had good learning experience at Taller. For Flamenco entertainment, Pena Marcarena and La Carboneria are my two favorite flamenco establishments. Good luck with your search.

Ah, so you're from Iraq?
(Or the Czech-Republic?
Or from Bavaria?)

Ignacio Franco's in Jerez does some dance accompanyment, but their pricing sturucture isn't aimed at tourists, more of the monthly subscription thing.

Haha... didn't know the Czech Republic and Bavaria had so many Babylonians

@mrstwinkle thanks for the pointer... I suppose it would be a good place to learn a more pure form of flamenco
